Dave Ohh Nearly Laps Field on Way to Jim Shampine Memorial Win at Oswego Speedway
June 16, 2020 – Oswego, NY…After taking the lead on lap 14, Dave “SpeedyMan” Ohh nearly lapped the field enroute to winning the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), 15th Annual Jim Shampine Memorial Tuesday night at Oswego Speedway. The only drivers that were able to stay on the lead lap with Ohh, joined him on the podium, and were former winners of the prestigious sim race. Last year’s winner, Brad Keysor, had a chance at the win after a late race restart, but ended up in second after throwing everying in the book at Ohh, and three-time Shampine Memorial winner “Rocket” Rob Warren was third for the second year in a row.
Win is Nice, Wanted More
“It’s nice to be added to that list of winners for this great event here,” Ohh said after his win. “Thanks to SUPRS, 1st to Finish Race Servers, Hairbag Studios, BreezeGraphics.com, The Mod Squad and HeatFinder.net, it feels good to make the first few shows of the season.”
Ohh had set a goal for himself prior to the start of the race and that was to lap the field. He nearly pulled if off but wore out his race car trying. ”I was running 110% trying to lap Rob, (third place),” he said. “I set a goal there. I was cooking those tires running up front trying to lap as many cars as possible.
If we would have had 25 laps more Brad would have gotten me. I just had enough there at the end, it was really going away, so 10, 15, 25 laps at the most and Brad would have won. Those tires weren’t too happy with me.”
To the Front Before Half-Way
After the redraw for the Elite 8 qualifiers, Ohh started inside of row four, but quickly moved to the front making a three wide pass into second place just as the second caution of the night came out on lap five for a vicsious crash involving Bob Gangwer, Keith Powell, Bobby Hayduk, and Dick Schuler in the middle of the backstretch. Powell and Hayduk each lost a wheel, while Gangwer and Schuler were able to limp their supermodifieds to the pits for repairs.
It only took two corners before Ohh blasted by defending Shampine Memorial champion Brad Keysor. He then had 67 green flag laps to stretch his lead and lap all the way up to third place before the third caution flew.
Keysor Throws the Book at Ohh
With two lapped cars sitting between himself and his second Shampine Memorial win in a row, Keysor pulled out his playbook and was just ready to throw it at Ohh, but the caution fell again with just eight laps to go when the Michigan Hill Gang team of Gary Waldron and Carl Becker collided in turn one.
This time, Keysor had a clear shot at Ohh, but when Ohh got a tremendous restart, all hope looked lost for the Liverpool, NY driver. Never one to give up, and sensing that Ohh had used up his car, Keysor began to work different lines and chased Ohh down. With one last ditch effort, Keysor looked high, then low as the duo blasted through turn three and four on the last lap. It wasn’t to be though as Ohh drove his TMS Wolfpack sponsored car sideways and full-throttle to the finish line first and beat Keysor by 0.284 of a second.

Rookie Receives SUPRS Charger Award
Erich Becker, a rookie driver from Shelby Township, MI, drove his heart out to and received the SUPRS Charger Award for advancing the most places from where he started. His spirited run from twelfth starting spot into the top five gave him the best finish yet in his young SUPRS career. “It felt good to keep it clean and not cause any accidents tonight, that was my goal,” said Becker. “I’m glad to be a part of the event and I want to thank SUPRS, I’m having a lot of fun and looking forward to more.”
