Dave Ohh on Pole by 39/1000 of a Second Over Brad Keysor for SUPRS 17th Summit Classic 125 at Madera Speedway

April 27, 2021 – Madera, CA…Dave Ohh of Union, CT sped to the pole position for the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), 17th Annual Summit Classic 125 at Madera Speedway. Ohh, who was also last year’s Summit Classic 125 pole sitter, had a lap time of 11.452 seconds, for an average speed of 104.009 mph, which was just enough to beat out second quick qualifier Brad Keysor who had a time of 11.461 seconds. Although a former winner, this will be Keysor’s first front row start, and the best starting spot of his career for the Summit Classic.

Surprised to Sit on Summit Pole

Unlike last year when he qualified first, Ohh was near the end of the line and got to see all the others qualify. Yet he had one driver in mind that he had to be better than and that driver was in the line after him. “I’m really surprised to be where I am on the front row,” he said. “Based on practice, I thought Brad would get it, but I just bobbled less than Brad.” Ohh’s second lap was a wild one as he fought to keep control of the TMS Wolfpack #11, and actually grazed the wall with the right rear tire as he came down to the finish line.

“It’s great to be on the pole for these longer races,” said the new SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Season Champion. “It’s nice to be up front because you can run your own race, and set the pace you want to set and not have other people dictate it for you.” Ohh has had a stellar season and will be looking to win for the twenty-fourth time in 41 races. “I’m sure going to do my best,” he said when asked if he thought he could pull off the win.

Brad Biffed Second Lap

For the second year in a row, 2019 Summit Classic Champion Brad Keysor, biffed his second lap. “It was just enough, but you can’t give up anything to these guys,” Keysor said after the broadcast. “Congrats to Dave on making the pole, he has had a great season.” Keysor was asked how much better he thought his chances for a second Summit Classic win would be from his starting spot outside of row one. He replied, “Well, I’ve started worse and won it, so even though I would have liked to be where Dave’s at, I’m good where I am and I will be able to keep him in sight.”

He then held of repeated challenges by former Summit Classic 125 winner Bob Gangwer to take the win over Danny Ray and Bobby Hayduk. Gangwer slipped back to fourth at the finish with Gary Waldron close in tow for fifth. Dick Schuler did not finish the race but was credited with sixth place.

Vincent will make his first Summit Classic 125 start on Wednesday and will be joined by other first time starters, Bobby Hayduk, and Dick Schuler.

Warren, Powell Takes Guaranteed Starter

Perennial front row starter Rob Warren was third quick, but opted to take his Guaranteed Starter, as did Keith Powell, who qualified sixth out of 10 cars present.
