Brad Keysor Takes First Feature, Dave Ohh Steals Second and Mid-Season Championship by Two Points

January 26, 2021 – Oswego, NY…Try as he might, Brad Keysor couldn’t quite gain the extra points he needed in his chase of Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), point leader, Dave Ohh in Tuesday night’s 2021 Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Mid-Season Championship at Oswego Speedway. After winning the first feature, Keysor looked like he was headed for victory lane in the second, only to have a determined Ohh make a daring pass for the lead, and the win which gave him enough points for the night to claim the Mid-Season Championship and the 15 bonus points that went with it.

Ohh Stays Focused and Determined

After finishing second to Keysor in the first race, Ohh, of Union, CT kept his sights set on not letting Keysor take the win in the second feature, and with the plethora of bonus points that would have cut into Ohh’s season championship points lead.

“The first race I was playing nice with Brad,” Ohh said. “I made a move way to late. In the second one, I couldn’t be as nice because he’s wicked fast and if had made any small bobble I knew he would have been right there. After I had to go to the back, I had enough time, but I used all of the car up. I knew I couldn’t make the same mistake as the first race and wait.”

“I knew after the first one, I just had to hang on and maintain,” Ohh said of his Mid-Season Championship plans. “It was a crazy night, but fun. Thanks to The Mod Squad, HeatFinder.net, 1st to Finish Race Servers, BreezeGraphics, Hairbag Studios, and Icings on Top.”

For Keysor, even though he won the first race and kept Ohh honest in the second, his dismay at what could have been was obvious. “It’s bad when you win a race but are disappointed in the night, but that’s kind of how I feel right now,” said the dejected Keysor. “I would have liked the Mid-Season Championship, but I think I got the SUPRS Charger in the second race so maybe I did a little damage control.”

Keysor Capitalizes

In the first feature, Brad Keysor capitalized on his front-row starting place and led all 35 laps, keeping Dave Ohh and rookie Ryan Cloonan at bay after each of the five caution periods.

“I was fortunate that the handicap put me on the pole because I don’t think I could have passed Dave, but I held them off,” stated the driver sponsored by Chasing Cameras.

“It was a good first race. The car really liked the 7:30pm start time. I had a couple of runs in there where the car would really come in after about three of four green flag laps where the car really started to feel good. I wouldn’t say I could pull away from Dave, but I could maintain the gap.”

“Congrats to Dave on the second win and the Mid-Season Championship. I feel bad for Ryan, (Cloonan, who dropped out of the second feature with connections issues after inheriting the lead under caution when Ohh was sent to the back),” Keysor said. “I have to thank 1st to Finish Servers, BreezeGraphics.com, Hairbag Studios, and a shout out to to Chasing Cameras, and BK Logistics for allowing me to come out here and win.

No Easy Win for Ohh

Dave Ohh’s win in the second Twin 35 was anything but easy.

After the inversion, Ohh started next to Keysor from seventh starting place in row seven. The initial start was called off, but on the second, and successful start, Ohh hit the hammer and had taken the lead from Keith Powell by lap three. He immediately started to gap the field, but only until the first caution came out on lap 11 for a single car spin by Zach Sears. At that time, race officials determined that Ohh had jumped the initial start which resulted in him being moved to the rear of the restart line-up.

As soon as the green flag dropped for the restart, the TMS Wolfpack sponsored racer began a full on assault to the front, but was quickly stopped when he clipped the back of a spinning Bobby Hayduk. Ohh went to the back again, but from that point forward, Ohh driving with a focused fury, continuously threw the car to the outside, picking off a car or two each lap, and taking advantage of every restart the race had to gain another spot.

As Keysor crossed the stripe to see the 10 to go signal, Ohh made a bold move to the outside of Keysor, who was expecting it, but made several small mistakes trying to hold Ohh at bay. “I was too conservative trying to protect the outside,” Keysor said. Ohh then held on through two more cautions as Keysor fought to hold back former Mid-Season Champions Keith Powell and Rob Warren.

Ohh knew he couldn’t waste any time or he would hand the win to his friend Keysor.

“I just had to show the tire to the outside and sail it in there and hope that he bobbled a little bit there at the end,” explained Ohh. “He had made a few small mistakes when I caught up to him, but the car had really faded at the end. I think that last caution helped me because I was able to get two clean laps and bring it home.”

Other Race Notes

Prior to the start of the SUPRS Live! @ 9 broadcast, Dave Ohh set fast time, stopping the clock at 15 seconds. He was joined in the Fast Car Dash by Brad Keysor, Ryan Cloonan, and Rob Warren. The six lap race was won by Keysor which put him on the pole for the first feature.

Bob Gangwer won the first 10 lap Heat Race, and the win in the second heat went to Nelson Rodrigues. For Rodrigues, it was the highlight of his night after running out of fuel in the first feature, then crashing out in the second.

Keith Powell and Rob Warren kept their points hopes alive with consistent finishes in both features. Each driver had their fair share of close calls that could of put them out of the race, but they kept their sights set on the big picture with Powell finishing in fifth for the first feature and third in the second, while Warren pulled down a fourth place in both.

Time for Fun in Florida

The SUPRS racers now change their focus on a huge week of supermodified sim racing in the Sunshine State, and will start the five night SUPRS Florida Speedweeks beginning Monday February 1, 2021 at Desoto Super Speedway. This is the first time in the history of SUPRS Speedweeks that Desoto Super Speedway finds itself on the schedule for the week, replacing New Smyrna Speedway.

At the end of the week, after racing at the aforementioned Desoto Super Speedway, Black Creek Raceway, Dodge Raceway Stadium, USA International Speedway, and wrapping up the five night swing at 5 Flags Speedway all the points will be tallied for every feature race and the 2021 Florida Speedweeks Champion will be crowned.

Drivers will battle on tracks from 1/3rd of a mile to 3/4 mile and use both NASCAR Heat and the rFactor supermodified sim racing platforms. Fans will be able to watch all five nights of SUPRS 2021 Florida Speedweeks thanks to Hairbag Studios and SUPRS LIVE! on both SUPRS.net and Twitch.
