Dave Ohh Rode the Top Groove to Victory at Black Creek Raceway on Night 2 of SUPRS Florida Speedweeks
Enterprise, FL – February 4, 2020… The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), completed the second night of the 2020 Florida Speedweeks and made up for a rough opener at New Smyrna on Monday, with a barn burner of a feature race that saw Dave Ohh of Union, CT take his TMS Wolfpack “Black Beauty” roadster to the top and pass Rob Warren for the win at Black Creek Raceway. After battling with the winner in a three-way battle royal that lasted the majority of the 25 lap main event, perennial Black Creek favorites, Warren and Bob Gangwer joined Ohh on the podium for second and third respectively.
Tipped Off
While it’s not the first time a driver has used the second groove to do well at Black Creek Raceway, Ohh’s consistent ability to keep the car up there lap after lap while battling Warren for the lead was something new. “Well I got a hot tip from Grumpy, (Jeff Bivens, a fellow SUPRS competitor and NASCAR Heat aficionado), that the high side would be in,” the Connecticut racer explained. “So I got it up to the top, I just had to try it.”
Once Ohh found his line, he refined it to perfection until he was able to keep his car side by side with Warren, providing the fans of the live Twitch broadcast a thrilling supermodified sim racing battle as they swapped the top spot several times. “We had an awesome battle up there, I think we were side by side most of the race. It was just a crazy tight race,” said Ohh.
Pleasurable Race
The normally demure driver, who is no stranger to victory lane wherever he races, was noticeably happy and said, “It was a real pleasure racing with SUPRS again, this was a really good race.” He then added, “Thanks to Kevin, (Timmins, of Hairbag Studios), for the video, and to Rob for 1st to Finish Race Servers and to Icings on Top.” Finally, Ohh took a moment to remind fans that there’s plenty of life left in the NASCAR Heat sim racing platform. “If your looking for more (NASCAR) Heat action, come on over and check it out Heatfinder.net, we’ve got our new Cup seasons starting up this week, we’re racing NHRL trucks and we wrap up our Legends series with a triple header,” he said.
Becker Leads the Pack
SUPRS veteran Carl Becker brought the field down for the green flag and got a great start over the president of his fan club Nelson Rodrigues. Becker led the field through the first corner and held the top spot for the first six laps of the race until slipping high out of turn two which allowed Rob Warren, who had started all the way back in seventh, to pass both Bob Gangwer and Becker.
Close to New Track Record
Rob Warren flirted with the 11 year old track record of 17.016 seconds set by Ray Sand, Jr., when he turned in a time trial of 17.078. Dave Ohh was the only other driver in the under 17.1 and was second quick with a lap of 17.090.
From Big to Little on Night 3
After stretching their legs on the big 3/4 at Black Creek tonight, the battle for the SUPRS Florida Speedweeks 2020 Championship continues tomorrow evening from within the tight confines of the 1/3 mile Dodge Raceway Stadium. This small fictional rFactor track has been the playground of Stoneham, MA resident Nelson Rodrigues. He’s won every race at Dodge since SUPRS has had it on the Speedweeks schedule, and, in fact, is where he won his first SUPRS feature.
