First Presidents’ Day Special for Dave Ohh Comes in First Visit to Bracket Hill Raceway

February 16, 2021 – Bracket Hills, NH…Dave Ohh of Union, CT was able to rise to the challenges of a new track, and passed Gary Waldron on lap 30 to win the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), Presidents’ Day Special, 75 lap supermodified sim racing feature, at Bracket Hill Raceway Tuesday night. Waldron had a great night and finished second, while three-time Presidents’ Day Special winner, Rob Warren made a late race charge to come home in third.

Nice Little Track

For a guy that has won in about every type of race car on about every track ever built for NASCAR Heat, it’s hard to imagine anywhere that doesn’t have Dave Ohh’s name listed as a winner. Interestingly enough, Bracket Hill was one of those places where he hadn’t competed, let alone won at. “This is a nice little track,” said Ohh after the race. “The bumpiness added to it, it was a hard track to pass at and tricky, everyone was fairly close on speed and it was just good short track racing.”

Unusual Tactic to Take Lead

Because of the unique nature of Bracket Hill, and it being his first visit to the fictional track built by Mike Jackson in 2003, Ohh, who started in fourth place, found himself fighting to find a way past pole sitter Gary Waldron who led the first 30 laps.

“Gary was tough,” he said. “I could get to him but I couldn’t get by him, so I just rode with him and waited. But without a mistake, I wasn’t going to get him.”

In a tactic that isn’t often seen by the hard charging Ohh who doesn’t usually like to wait to get to the front, he rode around behind Waldron, even as they worked through some lapped traffic that was anything but predictable, until he found his chance and pounced.

“Gary finally bobbled enough and I was able to get by him,” Ohh said. “There were some moments there, and I had so stay focused on the lapped traffic trying to keep the car clean, but they were all respectful.”

“I want to thank HeatFinder.net, everyone at The Mod Squad and of course 1st to Finish Race Servers, which were flawless tonight, BreezeGraphics.com, Hairbag Studios, and Icings on Top. And of course SUPRS for putting this show on.”

“It was pretty flawless night all the way around tonight. It went pretty quick and pretty clean,” concluded Ohh.

Waldron Back in Form

Gary Waldron, who has plenty of experience in all of the SUPRS NASCAR Heat modifications, and is a former winner at Bracket Hill Raceway, was back in his old form of running near the front. After qualifying third quick, Waldron won his heat race, and then drew the pole position.

He brought the field down for the green flag of the Presidents’ Day Special with Brad Keysor right alongside. Waldron hit the hammer and led the field into the first turn after getting the jump on Keysor. Waldron the stretched his lead a little bit as the top five battled behind him until Dave Ohh moved the rear nerf bar of the #10.

Waldron held onto the lead for the first 30 laps until Ohh got by, then held off Bob Gangwer and Rob Warren for most of the second half of the race.

Waldron was thrilled with his second place finish. “Man it feels really great to be on the podium again,” said the Kenowa Auto Supply sponsored racer. “It’s been a struggle most of the year. Lapped traffic, crashes, a lot of my own doing, but this was an excellent race, overall I am happy with a second.”

When asked how he felt about running the original SUPRS modification for NASCAR Heat, Waldron chuckled and said, “Man I tell ya there was a lot of dustin’ off to do for that one, a lot of waxing and cleaning up to get it ready for the show, but the car was fast out of the box and a second place shows it so I’m happy with that.?

SUPRS All-Star Classic 200 Next

The SUPRS racers now prepare for the 11th Annual SUPRS All-Star Classic 200 on Tuesday, February 23, 2021. Modeled after the real supermodified “Star Classic” held at Star Speedway, this race is the first of the 2021 Icings on Top Triple Crown of Supermodified Sim Racing.

Don’t miss this one!

Just 12 drivers make the show, and that alone makes it something special. The fight to make the 200 lap contest begins at 8:15pm with Time Trials where the “Elite 8” qualifiers are locked into the show and will be eligible for the feature inversion redraw. Competitors that aren’t amongst the fastest eight drivers in time trials, will have to hustle to make it out of the the 25 lap B-Main to become one of the final four drivers qualified for the 200 lap main event.

The winner of the race becomes a “Guaranteed Starter” for the season ending Summit Classic 125 at Madera Speedway in May.

Last year, Dave Ohh made history when he lapped the field en-route to his first All-Star Classic 200 win. In so doing, he secured the SUPRS Triple Crown of Supermodified Sim Racing presented by Icings on Top, after having previously won the Summit Classic and the Topless! 200. Ohh became just the third driver in SUPRS history to have accomplished the Triple Crown feat, joining Ray Sand, Jr. (2011), and Rob Warren, (2017), on the prestigious list.
