Rob Warren Joins Sand, Jr., Maxon, Davidson as Multi-Time Winner of Port City Kickoff
June 12, 2018 – Oswego, NY…Defending Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), champion Rob Warren began the defense of his title when he picked up the Port City Kickoff Tuesday evening at Oswego Speedway.
Not a Sure Thing
Warren’s win was no sure thing. He ran the first eight laps behind pole-sitter Steve Callahan, looking high and low to pass the C.P.R. Motorsports racer. He eventually worked his way around Callahan down the front stretch, but Callahan hung close until he spun in turn four on lap 19.
That spin also involved Kyle Clark who was in third at the time. With Clark out of the top three, Warren now had to contend with defending Port City Kickoff winner Keith Powell.
Powell Under Pressure
With 12 laps to go, Nelson Rodrigues brought out the caution when he spun out on the backstretch. The ensuing restart provided Powell with one last shot at getting around Warren. However, it was Powell that came under pressure from third place running Bob Gangwer and Kyle Clark who had moved back up to fourth. Because of trying to hold those two at bay, Powell was never able to get closer than .5 of a second to Warren.

SUPRS Remembers Shampine
Next week on June 19, SUPRS remembers Jim Shampine, the father of the modern radical offset supermodified. Shampine won more feature events at Oswego Speedway, (87), than any other driver and prior to his death in 1982, had already become a legend in real supermodified racing.
Official practice for the SUPRS 13th Annual Jim Shampine Memorial begins at 8:00pm. Drivers meeting is at 8:15pm. Time Trials lock in the Elite 8 qualifiers at 8:30pm and racing is set to start at 9:05pm with the first of two 10 lap heat races, (if needed) prior to the 80 lap feature.
Full details for the Jim Shampine Memorial are on the SUPRS Schedule. SUPRS members should check the Forums for the latest info on server times and passwords.
