Keith Powell Shows Patience, Steals Lead and Win from Kyle Clark at Black Kat Klassic

October 30, 2018 – Myrtle Beach, SC… Like a big feline on the prowl, Keith Powell methodically stalked leader Kyle Clark then pounced to the lead on lap 41 of the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), Black Kat Klassic  Tuesday at Myrtle Beach Speedway. Rob Warren overcame early race issues to finish second behind Powell, and Clark was left licking his wounds in third place at the end of 50 hair-raising laps.

Patience for Powell

After winning this race in 2016, (albeit at a different but similarly treacherous Red Ball Raceway), and finishing second here at Myrtle Beach last year, Keith Powell it seems isn’t all that scared of the Kat. His patience certainly came in handy and was able to get past the leader by biding his time. “Kyle was really strong,” began Powell. “I was getting a little better bite from the center off, but he was super fast and he kinda had this one. But he bobbled a bit and got really out of shape out of four and I was able to go under him.”

Warren Comes Back After Issues

Earlier in the evening Rob Warren set a New Track Record of 16.027 seconds but then had computer issues in the main event while running in third place. “My screen just froze,” he said. The caution with less than 20 laps in, for a spin by Nelson Rodrigues and Bob Gangwer, came at the right time and he was able to get back on the podium.

Evil Car Keeps Clark from Win

Third place finisher Kyle Clark won the Crack the Whip race which gave him the Pole Position, but it was little consolation for losing what could have been his first feature win of the season due to an evil handling race car later in the feature race. “I had my hands full,” he said.

A Very Special Evening Coming Up

Next week, SUPRS celebrates the 15th Anniversary of the first SUPRS sanctioned race with “Triple Tuesday” on November 6, 2018. Featuring three supermodified sim races, using three different mods, and three different sim racing platforms, this night is going to be something special.

The oldest supermodified sim racing sanction plans to remember their past with a NASCAR Heat race using the first mod built in-house for SUPRS called “NHSM” mod. Then they’ll cherish the present with a new release of their current rFactor mod, and finally they’ll give everyone a glance to the future of SUPRS with a brand new never seen rFactor 2 mod.

Things get going a little earlier than normal with practice starting at 7:30pm. Details for each race are still being finalized, but one thing is for sure, fans can watch it all with SUPRS LIVE! @ 9pm est.
