October 12 2021 – Kalamazoo, MI..Dave Ohh of Union, CT, won the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), 18th Annual Dion Parish Memorial Tuesday night at Kalamazoo Speedway in his first try, and lapping up to third place before taking the checkers. Defending race winner Brad Keysor sliced through the field from eleventh starting position to finish second and claim the SUPRS Charger award and Greg Breen ran a fantastic race in his first visit to Kalamazoo to end up in third place.
Shortened Race
The race was shortened to 50 laps from the scheduled 62 due to an oversight by SUPRS officials. When attempting to lock in the grid after a server crash, the lap count was set wrong, causing some confusion for the drivers and the broadcast booth. All’s well that ends well though and most agreed that it was an enjoyable race to run.
Counts and Crashes
Fourteen drivers took the green flag for the prestigious supermodified sim racing event and 12 finished with three on the lead lap. Five of the starters were former Dion Parish Memorial winners.
Steven Vincent led early but spun out in turn one on lap six while leading. He dropped out a few laps later. Dick Schuler was holding his own, but calamity struck when the car got loose out of turn four, did a reverse spin, then slammed into the front-stretch wall just past the starting line. Schuler’s spectacular crash, that saw the Chisago City, MN driver flip into the air higher than the front-stretch wall, ripped a wheel off and ended in a grinding halt in turn one.
Earlier in the evening, Ohh set fast time at 9.815 seconds, making him the only driver to break into the nines during time trials. Bobby Hayduk of Brooke Park, OH claimed the 15 lap B-Main.

Next up on the SUPRS schedule is the 18th Annual North Carolina Swing taking place October 19-21, 2021.
