Dave Ohh Leads all 125 Laps on Way to Summit Classic Victory

April 29, 2020 – Madera, CA…Dave Ohh of Union, CT closed out the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), season with a win in the 16th Annual Summit Classic 125 April 29 at Madera Speedway. Ohh’s win also made him the third driver in SUPRS history to have won the Triple Crown of Supermodified Sim Racing presented by Icings on Top. Like his wins in the 2019 Topless! 200 and more recently in the 2020 SUPRS All-Star Classic 200, Ohh led all the laps there were in the Summit Classic 125.

Dave “SpeedyMan” Ohh won the 16th Annual Summit Classic 125 at Madera Speedway

Last year’s winner, Brad Keysor finished in second place and 2017 Summit victor, Rob Warren was third.

Warren also won the SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Championship XVI, his seventh overall, by 46 points over his nearest competitor Keith Powell who finished fifth in the Summit Classic.

Rob Warren ended the season with nine wins, perfect attendance, and his seventh SUPRS Season Championship

Many Cautions

The race had an abnormal amount of cautions with the first one taking place right out of the gate when Ohh, the pole-sitter, spun out of turn two on the first lap. The start was called back and, just two laps after the green dropped for the second time, Jeff Bivens spun out. In total 183 laps were run.

The race ran in starts and stops only a few laps at a time at the beginning of the race, but eventually the drivers were able to run a 50 lap stretch without any cautions. The next longest green flag run was only 16 laps long coming in the last third of the 125 lap feature.

Four Drivers Make First Summit Start

Four of the 11 drivers that took the green flag were making their first Summit Classic 125 starts. The aforementioned Bivens, Kyle Perry, Henry Kelleher and AJ Russell all succumbed to rookie mistakes at least once in the race and Russell and Perry were the only half of the first-time Summit starters that made it the finish.

Waldron Returns, Sears Unable to Start

Gary Waldron came out of retirement for the third time in his career and finished his first Summit Classic 125 in about five years. The Wyoming, MI resident has his sights set on the non-wing season at Oswego.

Zach Sears was unable to accept his Icings on Top Rookie of the Year Award from Icings on Top owner Cyndi Powell due to severe flooding at his home in Round Lake Beach, IL. Sears was scheduled to start seventh in the Summit and couldn’t make the show.

Racing Resumes June 2

As has been the rule of thumb nearly every since the formation of the original supermodified sim racing sanction in 2004, a break between the wing and non-wing seasons is scheduled for the month of May. Normally, this would be the time when many of the members would look forward to the start of the real supermodified season, including the Oswego Speedway season opener, Star Speedway openers, and the Vukovich Classic at Madera Speedway. But with the continuing shelter in place orders and many race tracks not opening, the SUPRS racers will have plenty of time to fine tune their sim racing skills.

SUPRS will fire up the for the 2020 non-wing supermodified sim racing June 2, 2020. A tentative schedule of 12 races has been set , but has yet to be finalized due to the constant fluctuation of the real racing calendar. Most of the events will be contested on at Oswego Speedway using the SUPRS rFactor and NASCAR Heat modifications as SUPRS continues to fine tune the rFactor 2 modification.
