October 11 2022 – Kalamazoo, MI..Brad Keysor of Liverpool, NY has joined Ray Sand, Jr. Chris Meyers, and Rob Warren as a multi-time winner of the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), 19th Annual Dion Parish Memorial after winning for the second time at Kalamazoo Speedway. Keysor’s last win came in 2020. Ryan Cloonan came home second and Anthony Corsoniti raced his way to third after starting in sixth place.
Trouble for Contenders Helps Keysor
Keysor had a little luck on his side when bad luck struck two contenders and the pole sitter early in the 62 lap run. Defending winner Dave Ohh started from eighth place after the inversion redraw, when on lap two, he suddenly lost control of the TMS Wolfpack “Black Beauty” roadster. Ohh spun from the top of the track to the bottom and made heavy contact with the inside concrete wall just past the backstretch pit opening. Ohh ripped a wheel off the car in the crash, then spun up the track into the path of oncoming traffic. Fortunately for the other racers, they all missed the champion’s mangled machine.
Then just four laps later, Greg Breen, who had finished third in this race last year, started on the outside front row, and had taken the lead at the initial drop of the green flag, inexplicably lost control in nearly the same spot of the backstretch as Ohh. The leader spun into the backstretch pit entrance and nearly smashed into the broken machine of Ohh. Breen got the car turned around, but decided there was too much time lost and called it a night.
Not long after the race went back to green, pole-sitter Gary Waldron spun then hit the wall in turn four. After a review, SUPRS officials determined that the reason the Michigan Hill Gang sponsored driver had spun was because he’d gotten a little help from Nelson Rodrigues. Both were sent to the back, but Waldron’s race was essentially over with heavy damage on the #10 machine.
Earlier in the evening, Ohh set fast time at 9.859 seconds, making him the only driver to break into the nines during time trials. Heats and B-Main were scrapped due to car count.

Next up on the SUPRS schedule is the 19th Annual North Carolina Swing taking place October 18-20, 2022.
