Quick Results: Keysor First to Repeat at Show Me State 50

March 22, 2022 – Odessa, MO...Brad Keysor advanced five positions from his starting spot to become the first driver to win more than once in the five year history of the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), “Show Me State 50 at I-70 Speedway. Keysor stole the lead away from pole sitter Ryan Cloonan on lap 28 and won by nearly three and a half seconds over Cloonan. Anthony Corsoniti had a smooth race to claim third.

“First off thanks to 1st to Finish Race Servers, Hairbag Studios, Icings on Top and BMK Logistics,” said the winner. “I had a little bit of damage on the right side, fortunately it wasn’t bad,” Keysor continued. “It was fast, but I needed a couple of laps to get going, or maybe it was me needing a couple laps to get comfortable, but on the restart there I got back in line and had a good battle with Greg (Breen).

“He was fast and he tried to pass Anthony and I had to capitalize on that and got underneath him. Then I think Anthony, (Corsoniti), got a little loose and I was able to get around the outside of him. Then I had to chase down Ryan, (Cloonan), who had a good lead, but it kind of played out to what I needed so no complaints here.”

Big Crash for Sears, Gangwer

The lone caution of the race came on lap 10 when Zach Sears lost control, smashed the front stretch wall, then shot up the track and collected Bob Gangwer.

It was another great SUPRS race at I-70 and third fastest 50 laps in SUPRS history there. But as is usually the case, when things happen, they happen fast and with a lot of destruction. This year, while the race was slowed by just one caution for a total of 5 laps, that one caution caused a lot of carnage. Zach Sears after starting in last place was moving up through the field when he lost control of his Midwest Supermodified Series machine out of turn four. He then slid to the inside of the track where he clobbered the infield wall which ripped the left front off the car as Bob Gangwer approached.

As Gangwer slowed and stayed to the top side of the track, Sears suddenly shot up the banking and into the direct path of Gangwer, and with nowhere to go, Gangwer slammed into Sears sending both cars up into the air. With wheels gone, both drivers were out of the race.

Keysor Breaks Track Record, Cloonan Wins Dash

Brad Keysor broke the existing one year old track record of 11.714, with a new one lap mark of 11.651. It’s the second time that Keysor has held the record, and the fifth straight year a new top time has been set.

Ryan Cloonan one the BMK Logistics Fast Car Dash which gave him the pole position for the 50 lap feature.

Double Header at PIR

Coming next Tuesday, the SUPRS racers move further west, and will pull into “The Desert Mile” for SUPRS Copper World Classic XVIII presented by Kern Motorsports and the West Coast Supermodified Racers Reunion, on March 29 at Phoenix International Raceway.

Modeled after the original Copper World Classic that featured supermodified racing at PIR, the SUPRS version features non-wing and winged supermodified sim racing using the rFactor platform. Each division will run a 25 lap feature, and as the sun goes down in the desert, points from both feature finishes will be tallied to decide the overall 2022 SUPRS Copper World Classic Champion.
