Quick Results: Keysor Wins Second All-Star Classic 200

Share SUPRS:

February 28, 2023 – Epping, NH… Liverpool, New York’s Brad Keysor led all but five laps and cruised to the win in the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), 13th Annual All-Star Classic 200 Tuesday at Star Speedway. In a race that saw the final 115 laps go green, Keysor turned in the fastest lap of the race, and with the win, became the fifth driver in SUPRS history to win the 200 lap grind at Star more than once.

Ryan Cloonan led the first five laps and held on for second four laps back, while 2012 winner Keith Powell finished in third, also four laps down.

Keysor Likes Star

Since he started his SUPRS career, Brad Keysor has had a pretty good finishing record at Star, a track he enjoys. “I think my average finish is pretty good here, so this is one of my favorite places to race,” he said in the WAGs Custom & Cool Awards post-race show. “It’s a real rhythm track, but you can’t get lulled into thinking it’s easy because it will bite you.”

“It’s a track where you have to be really smooth on the throttle and it’s not all about absolute speed. I’m happy to win this after I dumped one a couple years ago when my grandma was sick on the night of the race and then we lost her, so this definitely feels good to win my second.”

Other Race Notes

While the box score will show that seven of the 11 starters made it to the finish, the race was another clean one at a track that can be treacherous. Of the four drivers that dropped out of the race, two pulled off, two crashed out, but in all cases, it was one at a time that the drivers exited the track. No major incidents occurred, and the race saw a new record set for the most green flag laps run since the series began using rFactor. Just two cautions for a total of eight laps slowed the show down, allowing the drivers to run a total of 192 green flag circuits.

Earlier in the evening, Brad Keysor broke Keith Powell’s six year old track record of 10.571 seconds when he lowered the best single lap time for supermodified sim racing at Star to a 15.529. Icings on Top Rookie of the Year candidate Daniel Nans finished the race in fourth place and took the Rookie of the Race Award. Greg Breen was the only other first-time starter of the All-Star Classic 200 but he dropped out after sustaining damage when he slid into the infield on lap 11 to bring out the first caution two laps later when he got stuck.

Danny Ray hung in and stayed out of trouble to come home in seventh just one lap shy of getting the black flag for being too many laps down. His efforts netted him the SUPRS CHarger Award and 10 bonus points for being the driver that advanced the most places from where he started.

Tom Netishen, Executive Director of the North England Racing Museum, joined the race broadcast to tell fans about the rich history of supermodified racing in New England and shared ways on how people can help support the Museum which sits on the grounds of the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Louden, NH.
