November 15, 2022 – Millington, TN…After a battle that lasted most of the night, Dave Ohh bagged his third straight Burgers’ Smokehouse Thanksgiving Turkey after winning the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), 18th Annual Turkey Shoot at Memphis Motorsports Park.
After starting on the pole, dropping to second behind fellow front row starter Ryan Cloonan, then watching Ohh, who started in fifth, fly past Cloonan into the lead on lap two, second place finisher Brad Keysor hounded Ohh for most of the race. The 2019 Turkey Shoot winner briefly took the lead, but couldn’t hold on after leaving the door open for Ohh to zoom back into the lead.
Zach Sears, who started in sixth place, had a clean race that netted him a third place finish after having issues earlier in the night that kept him from running the six lap “Turkey Trot.”
Heat wins went to Bob Gangwer and Nelson Rodrigues, while Ohh won the six lap “Turkey Trot” for the SUPRS Fast 6.
Four cautions slowed the race for a total of 13 laps under yellow with only Dick Schuler and Carl Becker not finishing the race after hard hits into the Memphis wall. Ohh led the most laps at 36. Keysor and Cloonan each led two.
Jeff Bivens made his first rFactor start in over a year, had a couple of minor incidents, but kept plugging away in his NH Autosport #07, eventually finishing twelfth out of the fourteen starters. 7-Time SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Champion, Ray Sand, Jr. of Rochester, NY attempted to make his first SUPRS start in over four years, but pulled in late and had issues. Ohh tied Sand’s record of three Turkey Shoot wins. Ohh also became the first driver in SUPRS history to win more than two Turkey Shoots in a row.
Taking for Thanksgiving
The SUPRS racers now take a break from the action to allow members to spend time with their families over the Thanksgiving holiday. After almost 10 days off, your favorite supermodified sim racing sanction fires up again on November 29 for the 19th Annual Wing Side Up Twin 25s. For the first time in the event’s history, The Salem Speedway will play host to the wing and non-wing supermodifieds of SUPRS. Full details are on the SUPRS schedule page.
