February 15, 2022 – Epping, NH..Dave Ohh of Union, CT “had just enough” and was able to hang on to win the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), 12th Annual All-Star Classic 200 Tuesday at Star Speedway. Ohh narrowly beat defending winner Brad Keysor to the finish line first to claim his second victory in three years at the iconic 1/4 mile speedplant. Ohh is now the fourth driver to have won the All-Star Classic 200 more than once, joining Ray Sand, Jr., Steve Callahan and Rob Warren on that list. Ryan Cloonan finished third three laps down.
Although he came up two laps short of leading all 200 laps like he did the first time he won the race in 2020, Ohh set a torrid pace hoping to lap the field early, and nearly accomplished his goal. “I went really hard at the start,” said Ohh. “We had a very long green flag run and I wanted to gap Brad as much a I could.” The first 110 laps flew by in a blur before Bob Gangwer brought out the first of just two cautions when he spun into the backstretch infield while running in fourth place.
Keysor took advantage of the restart and uncorked the Chevy big block in his BMK Logistics #3, carving his way through some tough traffic to find himself within striking distance of Ohh with 50 laps to go.
“I heard Brad back there,” said Ohh. “I think he had a little bit easier time getting around the lapped cars than I did, but it’s always that way when you’re the first to lap guys and they are racing to stay on the lead lap.” When the caution came out on lap 172 for a crash between third place running Zach Sears and Anthony Corsoniti, Ohh knew the closing circuits around Star would be tough. Ohh nearly drove the wheels off of the TMS Wolfpack “Black Beauty” roadster trying to keep Keysor at bay. “It was close,” he said. “I definitely used up everything I had on the tires, I had just enough.”
Other Race Notes
Four of the top five were former All-Star Classic winners and three of those have laid claim to the SUPRS Triple Crown of Supermodified Sim Racing presented by Icings on Top.
As is typical at Star, attrition played a part in the outcome of the race with half of the field failing to finish the 200 lap grind, but, other than the Sears/Corsoniti collision, all of the DNF listings were single car incidents that didn’t bring out the yellow, or drivers simply pulling off the course.
Earlier in the evening, Dave Ohh set fast time and Steven Vincent won the B-Main over the other drivers to transfer to the Classic-Bobby Hayduk, Nelson Rodrigues, and Danny Ray. Gary Waldron and Dick Schuler did not make it out of the B-Main.
Tom Netishen, Executive Director of the North East Motor Sports Museum, joined the race broadcast to tell fans about the rich history of supermodified racing in New England and shared ways on how people can help support the Museum which sits on the grounds of the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Louden, NH.
