Quick Results: Plenty of Luck for Ohh at La Crosse

Share SUPRS:

March 15, 2022 – West Salem, WI..He may not be Irish, but Dave “SpeedyMan” Ohh has plenty of luck when it comes to finding the proverbial pot of gold at the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), “St. Patrick’s Day Grab O’ the Green. Ohh won the race for the fourth straight year Tuesday night at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway. after starting the night off by blazing to a track record of 14.883 seconds.

Dave Ohh continued his dominance of the SUPRS St. Patrick’s Day Grab O’ the Green, winning his fourth straight at the fourth different track in as many years. Brad Keysor was second and Ryan Cloonan finished third. (Victory Lane Art by BreezeGraphics.com)

The remainder of the podium looked just as it has for the majority of the 2021-22 Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Championship season with Brad Keysor standing on the second step and Ryan Cloonan on the third. Cloonan was the only other driver to lead a lap, holding Ohh off for three circuits after starting on the pole position.

Fourth Straight Grab O’ the Green Win

For a race that had just one repeat winner through 2018, Ohh’s complete dominance of the popular and fun supermodified sim race has been nothing short of astounding, especially since his four wins have come at four different tracks, and three of them, including this one, have been the first time that SUPRS has raced at them. “This feels very good,” stated Ohh. “To win on very different tracks, all great tracks that deserve a place on the schedule, it’s good.”

When asked if he had any lucky Irish blood in his family heritage he chuckled and said, “No, no Irish, but I’ve sure used up every lucky horse shoe I’ve got in a few of those races through the years.”

“I have to thank all the supporters of SUPRS and of course The Mod Squad and HeatFinder.net. It was a good night and all the drivers really did a good job holding their line and showing their intent when I lapped them. Congrats to Brad on a second and Ryan on third and to Greg, (Breen), on a strong fourth place after being gone.”

Other Race Notes

The race was slowed by just one caution for a total of 3 laps. That caution came, ironically, on “unlucky” lap 13, when Nelson Rodrigues got into the back end of Bob Gangwer during a fierce battle for fifth place in turn four. Gangwer got sideways after the tap by Rodrigues, and for a while, it looked like both would continue. However, Gangwer’s luck ran out after almost saving it, when he clobbered the front-stretch wall with Rodrigues right behind him.

Gangwer joked afterwards, “I guess Nelson had plenty of gas tonight,” in reference to how often “Hot” Rodrigues runs out of fuel. Rodrigues replied with a grin, “He slowed down right as I was standing on the gas.” Both drivers were out for the night, and while they were unlucky, Dave Ohh was able to squeak by.

“I saw Bob and Nelson wiggling, then I saw another wiggle, and another wiggle, so I backed out of the throttle and got by,” Ohh said.

Breen Back

Greg Breen returned to the track for the first time since the Black Kat Klassic at Myrtle Beach back in October. Breen has found it hard to compete because of his job, but certainly hasn’t forgotten how to go fast in his Lindsey Aggregates #26. He qualified fourth quick and after starting next to his nephew Ryan Cloonan came home in fourth.

West Coast Swing Begins

The next event on the SUPRS calendar is Tuesday, March 22. The Show Me State 50 at I-70 Speedway gets SUPRS 2022 West Coast Swing rolling towards the end of the season.
