Quick Results: Sandman Sails Away at Ovid

Share SUPRS:

Ray Sand, Jr. wasted no time getting to the front and when he did, he sailed off into the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), sunset and didn’t stop until he parked his sim racing supermodified in victory lane at the first round of the 2015-16 Empire State Super Series Tuesday night at Ovid Raceway Park.

Passing pole sitter Dave Brigandi on lap two, Sand, Jr. stretched his lead to over five seconds by the end of the race and said, “This thing was just on a rail tonight.”

It was the first time the SUPRS racers had visited the track since April of 2008 and Sand, Jr. was glad they did saying, “Man this place is like an outdoor Atlantic City, (an indoor track set up for TQ midget racing at the Atlantic City, NJ Boardwalk Hall), we’re doing 8 or 9  second laps and it’s my kind of track. I’d love to race this place in life.”

The closest Bob Gangwer and Steve Callahan could get to Sand, Jr. all night is when they took the second and third steps of the podium in victory lane.

Sand, Jr. set fast time at the track where he is also the one lap record holder. Gangwer won the heat race.

The SUPRS competitors will be hanging out in New York again next week as they take the track known as “The Home of the Supermodifieds” for the Mid-Season Championship. Oswego Speedway will be the site of Twin 35 lap features that are also part of the 2015-16 Empire State Super Series. Both features pay double SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Championship points. Practice gets underway at 8pm.
