Jacksonville, NC – November 5, 2014…Repeating the feat he pulled off in 2013, Rob Warren of Pulaski, NY again won both races on the second night of the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series 11th Annual North Carolina Swing. Warren led all 40 laps at Concord Motorsports Park and then went on to lead the entire 50 lap feature at Coastal Plains Raceway Wednesday night.
While he may have led from the drop of the green flag to the waving of the checkered in each race, just like last year when he won both races, he had his work cut out for him.
A full house watched as Rob Warren won at Concord Motorsports Park.
In the first race of the night held at Concord Motorsports Park, Warren started on the pole and quickly bolted to the lead past his front row dancing partner Chris Meyers. Meyers never allowed Warren to put more than three car lengths between them but had his own problems to worry about in the form of the Scriba Turkey Buzzard driven by Bob Gangwer.
Meyers slipped just enough to allow Gangwer to pull along side and then they raced side by side jockeying for position around lap 15. With Meyers hanging tough on the high side and Gangwer digging down at the bottom, Warren was able to pull ahead somewhat, while Myles Maxon and Steve Callahan were able to reel in the battling duo.
Finally Gangwer was able to dispense of Meyers and worked to gain ground on Warren. Maxon and Callahan eventually made their way past Meyers as well.

Warren was quickly being chased down by Gangwer and now Maxon as the race passed the half-way point. Warren continued to hold a tight line out front while Gangwer looked for a way around and Maxon stayed hitched to the rear nerf bar of the second place racer.
Unable to get past Warren, Gangwer succumbed to the wily ways of “Mighty” Myles Maxon on the last lap and relinquished second place to the current point leader at the stripe.
Coastal Plains Raceway once again provided a race filled with nail-biting action and it also involved Rob Warren, Chris Meyers, Bob Gangwer and Myles Maxon.
Warren and Meyers filled the front row and the field fell into place with Warren, Meyers, and Gangwer racing nose to tail until Meyers yet again and Gangwer got by after the half-way point.
With very little time to spare, Gangwer ran down Warren and tried passing high and low as the laps ticked down. Myles Maxon had made his way to third place but couldn’t catch the top two with 10 to go.
Gangwer tried several daring passes on the outside within the last two laps, but they were all in vain as Warren held on for the second win of the night. Gangwer came home second and Maxon again was on the podium standing in third place.
The qualifying races are now complete and the top eight drivers after those four events will now receive an invitation to The Hickory Hustle at Hickory Motor Speedway. The winner of that race will be crowned the 2014 North Carolina Swing Champion, but to win, the SUPRS racers will have to overcome a random draw for starting position and 75 intense laps of action in very close quarters. Practice begins at 8:00pm with racing slated to go at 8:45.
