New York Racer Wins Second SUPRS Show in a Row
Jennerstown, PA – August 13, 2013… Rob Warren of Pulaski, NY won the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series Laurel Highlands Classic at Jennerstown Speedway Tuesday night and became the first back to back winner for SUPRS in the 2013 Non-Wing Supermodified Championship Season. Warren passed Fulton, New York’s Kyle Perry on lap 15 and held on for the win over second and third place finishers Steve Callahan and Myles Maxon respectively.
Warren is no stranger to the Jennerstown victory lane after a dominating performance in the Randy Witkum Memorial 125 earlier in the year in his winged supermodified, but stated that this win was a lot different and just as challenging. “The non-wing car is very hard to keep consistant it’s a real crap shoot every lap,” he said.
Callahan described his pass on Perry and the ensuing battle he waged to get by Warren saying, “I have to say Kyle did a great job out there tonight. This is a tough place and he didn’t make a lot of mistakes, just one that we were able to get by.
After I got Kyle I tried Rob but he wanted the same line as I did so I tried the high side a few times thinking that it was the only way I was going to get him and that allowed the pack to catch up to us. Fortunately I was able to hang on to second over Myles.”
Maxon, starting from the tail, used up nearly half of the race to move to within striking distance of Callahan, but came up just short at the line once again and had to settle for third. “Let me tell you, that was a grinder,” began the Oswego, NY resident. “It was a great race, just great racing all night long everywhere.”
“I had a terrible start and just rode around trying to catch up for most of the race, then little by little after biding my time, I got a break, but there weren’t many mistakes tonight so I had to work the outside a lot and fortunately it worked a couple of times. I really didn’t think I had anything for a podium tonight, but I’ll take it and congratulations to Rob and Steve,” said the new point leader Maxon.
Chris Meyers held on for fourth for the second week in a row while hjs disappointed teammate Ray Sand, Jr. could only watch another points championship slip further from his grasp in fifth. Bob Gangwer, Kyle Perry and Domenic Gioia filled out the field.
The SUPRS racers now set their sites ona weekful of suspense and action leading up to the 9th Annual Topless! 200 at Oswego Speedway. The points chase is very tight within the top five at this time and the 200 lap grind is sure to settle the season in a fine way on Wednesday August 21, 2013.
