December 14, 2020 – Goshen, IN…It’s the most wonderful time of the year and the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), is ready to celebrate the season. This year the scene for SUPRS Seventeenth Christmas Special will be Sanair Super Speedway. It’s the fifth straight year the race has been contested at a different venue. It’s also the first time the race has been run on anthing bigger than a 1/2 mile speedway, and for the first time in the history of the popular supermodified sim race, it will take place across the border in Canada.
Christmas Gift for Winner
One thing that hasn’t changed from years past is whomever takes the checkered flag first on Tuesday, will receive a Burgers’ Smokehouse Christmas Ham for his accomplishment. This is one gift that all the SUPRS racers would love to find on their doorstep in time for Christmas dinner!
The fine folks at Burgers’ Ozark Country Hams have been providing simple traditions since 1952 when they built their first “ham house” on their farm in Missouri.
With complete attention to quality and customer service, this family owned company continues to do things the old-fashioned way taking great care in the time-honored traditions of curing, aging, and smoking superior quality products.
Five Former Winners Expected
Former winners, Brad Keysor, Keith Powell, Rob Warren, Gary Waldron, and Bob Gangwer are all expected to compete at Sanair. Warren has the most Christmas Special wins at four, (in a row, no less), and is the only driver in the history of the race to have won it more than once. It’s possible that fans may also see 2010 winner Steve Callahan if he can get strapped in after a long day at work.
Rookies & Points Leader Will Challenge
A fine rookie crop of racers including Ryan Cloonan, who leads the Icings on Top Rookie of the Year standings, Steven Vincent, who raced to second place just last week, Michael Scott, a real supermodified racer, and John Held, a Canadian hoping to represent his country well, are just a few of the SUPRS racers that will be up for the challenge of beating the former winners.
Similarly, points leader Dave Ohh would love to add a Burgers’ Smokehouse Ham to his dinner table to compare it to the Thanksgiving turkey he received from Burgers’ for winning the Turkey Shoot in November. With the most wins so far this season, it’s a sure bet that Ohh is the odds on favorite to take his eighth SUPRS victory of the season.
Last year Brad Keysor became the thirteenth different winner of the Christmas Special and graciously donated his Burgers’ Smokehouse ham to Jeff Russell, a real supermodified racer from Boise, ID that was injured in 2010 and continues to heal from Traumatic Brain Injury.
