Maxon, Warren Win Features, Ray Sand, Jr. Claims Wing Supermodified Mid-Season Championship

Oswego, NY – January, 27, 2015…As hard as Myles Maxon and Rob Warren tried by each winning a feature race, they couldn’t stop Ray Sand, Jr. of Rochester, NY from chalking up enough points to claim the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series Mid-Season Championship at Oswego Speedway.

“This is pretty cool, to be able to do this again, and let me tell you it wasn’t easy, is just cool, but the best part it just being able to be here and run with everybody,” said Sand, Jr. after being declared the Mid-Season Champion.

Sand’s consistency was what ultimately gave him the lock on his fifth SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Mid-Season Championship, and while he didn’t win either of the 35 lap feature races, he claimed second in both. He also had the fastest lap of both features, qualified second and was awarded the SUPRSCharger in the second Twin 35.

Current point leader Myles Maxon won the first feature but after the full inversion for the second was unable to move forward like Sand, Jr. and ended up fifth.

The winner of the second feature, Rob Warren of Pulaski, NY ended up one lap down in the first Twin but took advantage of his outside row one starting spot in the second to motor past pole sitter Joey Callahan on lap 2 and go to the line for the win.

Bob Gangwer and Callahan were on the podium for each twin respectively while Joey’s father Steve brought the CPR Motorsports “Double Nickle” home for fourth in both races.

Earlier in the evening Myles Maxon his fifth new track record of the season when he stopped the Oswego Speedway chronograph at 15.576 seconds, just topping the old mark of 15.759 set by Ray Sand, Jr. in January of 2010. Carl Becker grabbed the heat race win. Maxon also grabbed the SUPRSCharger award in the first feature.

The SUPRS racers move just a bit further east next week for the 11th Annual Groundhog Day Derby at Derry Raceway Park in Derry, ME. The format for this race depends on Punxsutawney Phil. If he see’s his shadow and declares six more weeks of winter, there will be no time trials and the line-up for the feature will be random. If Phil says spring is just around the corner, the race will use the regular SUPRS format of time trials, heats, and handicapped feature line-up.
