Fourth Straight SUPRS Win for Dave “SpeedyMan” Ohh Comes at I-70 Speedway

March 24, 2020 – Odessa, MO… Dave Ohh has moved one step closer to the SUPRS Bounty after picking up his fourth straight Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), win in the Show Me State 50 at I-70 Speedway Tuesday. Ohh, driving the TMS Woflpack #11, had a nearly perfect night after setting a New Track Record, winning the Fast Car Dash, and the Feature. He also set the fastest lap of the feature and led the most feature laps. The only driver keeping him from sweeping the night was 2019 Show Me State 50 winner, Keith Powell, who beat Ohh in their heat race. For the second year in a row, Brad Keysor was on the podium with a second place finish, and the only other driver to lead the race, Bob Gangwer, finished third.

Getting to the Front Not So Easy

The winner, from Union, CT, took over the lead on lap 20 after moving up from sixth starting place, then hounding early leader Bob Gangwer. And while four wins in a row may make it sound like Ohh is unstoppable, he did have his work cut out for him in a fast, closely matched field of supermodifieds.

“It was definitely a challenge,” he said.  “It was harder to pass, because everyone was so close here tonight.” He went on to say, ” I had to try to be patient. Bob had one heckuva hot rod up there, and he wasn’t making mistakes. At one point I pushed him down the front stretch then I was able to work by him and got a rhythm. It was quite the battle working up through the field, everyone was pretty close here tonight.”

“Thanks to Hairbag Studios, 1st to Finish, Icings on Top, and Bobby and SUPRS for having us HeatFinder and ModSquad guys over to race with them. It was a good night.”

Race Record for Cautions

The previous two editions of the Show Me State 50 only had two cautions total. Tuesday night’s version of this race changed all that, with a race record high of five slowdowns caused by the caution flag. The race was barely two laps old when the first yellow came out for Jeff Bivens when he spun out in turn one. “I think you can count some of the cautions as tech difficulties,” said Ohh. To his point, that was the problem for the racing firefighter, Derrick Backus, as once again his screen froze while running in the top five, leaving him stranded on the front stretch necessitating a caution.

Most of the others though were simply a case of close, hard, fast racing on the bumpy I-70 surface. Just prior to Ohh passing Gangwer for the lead on lap 20, Mike Netishen lost control on the front stretch, careened off of first Keith Powell, then the inside wall, shot to the outside wall and made contact nearly in the same place that Biven’s had at the start of the race. For Netishen however, the night ended when his car flipped and he was out of the race.

Double Header at PIR

Coming Tuesday, the drivers of SUPRS head to “The Desert Mile” for SUPRS Copper World Classic XVI presented by Kern Motorsports March 31 at Phoenix International Raceway.

Modeled after the original Copper World Classic that featured supermodified racing at PIR, the SUPRS version features wing and non-wing supermodified sim racing using the rFactor platform. Each division will run a 25 lap feature, and as the sun goes down in the desert, points from both feature finishes will be tallied to decide the overall 2020 SUPRS Copper World Classic Champion.

Keith Powell and Dave Ohh are the defending race winners and Ohh is the reigning Copper World Champion. If Ohh wins the first feature for the winged supermodifieds, he’ll have the SUPRS Bounty placed on his head.

When a driver wins five(5), SUPRS races in a row he gets a ‘Bounty’ placed on his head. The first driver to win a race other than the ‘wanted’ driver, collects the ‘Bounty’ by ‘taking’ ten(10) points from the ‘wanted’ driver’s Championship Points total and adding it to his own. If the ‘wanted’ driver continues to win, he will have five(5) bonus points added to his Championship Points total for each win, and the Bounty is increased by five(5) points, up to a total of twenty-five(25) points for one of the Bounty Hunters to claim if they beat the “wanted” driver.
