Presidents Day Supermodified and Modified Wins First of Season
Radford, VA – February 18, 2014…. Winning a Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series race may be worth the wait, but Presidents’ Day Special winner Steve Callahan was well over the waiting part as he picked up his first victory of the season at New River Valley Speedway Tuesday evening.
Callahan won over Rob Warren and Ray Sand, Jr., while Bob Gangwer and Gary Waldron rounded out the top five.
“Yeah! Finally,” Callahan exclaimed after the 75 lap feature. “Those second places were getting a little frustrating.”
Callahan had been locked out of the 2013-14 victory lane for the first 21 races of the season and even finishing second five out of the previous five shows wasn’t enough to quench his thirst for success. “Those second places were getting a little frustrating,” he said.
Coming into the race “Steady” Steve was the hands down favorite as he had won at this track more than any other competitor on the current roster and he didn’t disappoint the odds makers when he muscled his way into the lead past Rob Warren on lap 28 and came home with the supermodified win.
“I had a lot of fun and hope everyone else did too,” said Callahan. “It’s been a while. I try my best to win every week and run up front and tonight is just paid off. do the best I can and finally that hard work paid off tonight.”
He wasn’t done with the winning however as he then strapped into his pavement modified and again stole the lead from Warren and win the 125 lap feature for those cars as well.
Rob Warren had another great run with his 1st to Finish Docks & Hoists Services roadster and even though he ended up in second place, he was happy to see the well-liked Callahan win stating, “Congratulations to “Steady” Steve, he ran an awesome race and it was good to see him get back in victory lane.”

Current point leader Ray Sand, Jr. came home in third place and was also pleased to see the number 55 of Callahan in victory lane. “Congrats to Stevo. He’s been strong all year and it finally paid off for him, it’s good to see him get a win.”
In the companion Pavement Modified 125, Steve Callahan waged an intense batttle against Rob Warren and came home the winner by a narrow margin. Bob Gangwer, Dave Brigandi and Carl Becker rounded out the top five with Kevin Timmins and Ray Sand, Jr. finishing out the field.
