October 30, 2013 – Goshen, IN…The Supermodified Ultimate Racing Series was started in 2004 by supermodified race fans John Davidson and Bob Gangwer as a way to enjoy online racing with their favorite form of motorsport-the supermodified division.
The team quickly realized that there were many opportunities available with the online racing platform that would provide them a way to give back to the teams, tracks, sponsors and fans of the division. With this thought in mind, and using a suggestion from a member, SFJ and Bobby G.,(as Davidson and Gangwer are known respectively), the league went to a “donations to play” format soon after the formation of the league.
By asking members to donate to the newly created Dion Parish Memorial Benevolent Fund for Supermodifieds in order to compete with the league, SUPRS quickly accumulated funds that allowed the league to donate cash to injured drivers and their families when they needed it the most.
SUPRS has continued to grow using this, until then, unheard of model and now embarks on it’s tenth anniversary season of online racing.
The 2014 Winged Championship schedule will feature 40 race dates, and as the league celebrates it’s 10th Year of “Racing Online to Give Back Real Time,” it will revisit some of it’s old haunts and swings. Members will find a very aggressive schedule that includes a full Florida Speedweeks, North Carolina Swing, and Keystone Nationals, as well as Twins, and multiple nights of racing in a week.
Also for 2014, SUPRS will go back to it’s 2007-2010 points system as a tip of the hat to those days of 16-20 car fields and some of the most robust racing the league has ever seen. A variety of track configurations are sure to allow the SUPRS members to showcase their talent throughout the season.
