The SUPRS 2017 Gold Crest Non-Wing Championship XIII Schedule is nearly identical to the last year’s with all events using the rFactor racing sim and every race held at Oswego Speedway. The one major change is the majority of the races are going to be available with live streaming video via SUPRS LIVE! Specific events on the go t0 page online for live supermodified sim racing timing, scoring, track telemetry and now the live video action should be announced in the next couple of weeks.

Jumping into June

The 13th season of SUPRS non-wing supermodified sim racing begins a few days deeper into the first full week of June on Wednesday the sixth with the running of the Port City Kick-Off. What had been a 75 lap race for several years is now a 50 lapper at Oswego Speedway.

9-Time SUPRS Champion, Ray Sand, Jr., proudly displays his 2015 Jim Shampine Memorial trophy and his SUPRS pride on his real race car.

The 12th Annual Jim Shampine Memorial 80 is the second week of June on the 13th. This race honors the “father of the modern supermodified,” Jim Shampine.  Shampine tops the list of All-Time Winners at Oswego Speedway with 87 feature victories, was a 7-time track champion, and won the prestigious International Classic 200 three times. This race is the first of three ‘guaranteed starter” races for the season ending Topless! 200.

Gone from the schedule is the “Flag Day 45”, but the popular 1st to Finish Race Servers “Irregular 45” will take place on June 20. This race is a tip of the hat to the challenging Oswego Speedway formats of the 1960s to 1980s with heats, consolation races, a semi-feature and feature.

The month closes out on the 25th with the first of four regular 45 lap features.

Changes in July

After a compacted July last year that had back to back twin 35 lap formats in the first two weeks of the month, sanction officials decided to make a slight change. The long-running Independence Day Twin 35s will again kick off July on the fifth and now the Mid-Season Championship follows the Twins a week later as a special 100 lap feature event as opposed to the Twin 35 format.

A regular 45 lap feature on July 18 after which SUPRS will take its annual break from online supermodified sim racing for the popular International Supermodified Association Supermodified Nationals at Sandusky Speedway. This race takes place July 28-29 and is part of the real supermodified “Triple Crown” and many SUPRS members are not only big fans of the event, but several even work on real supermodifieds.

The Dog Days of Summer

When the racers come back they’ll vie for the 10th Annual Mr. Online Supermodified title.  After just a year of being back to the original single 75 lap feature format for the non-wing supermodifieds, the race is now a two-day wing and non-wing event the first week of August. Each night the drivers will race a 50 lap feature after time-trialing and racing heats.  Each time a driver is on the track, he gains points that go towards his two-day total.

After the points are tallied, one driver will emerge as the 2017 Mr. Online Supermodified champion and gain valuable bonus points towards his overall championship run. The last two years, the driver that has won the Mr. Online Supermodified race has gone on to claim the SUPRS Gold Crest Non-Wing Championship crown.

A regular 45 on August 8 is sandwiched between the Mr. Online Supermodified race and the second Topless! 200 Guaranteed Starter race. The 13th Annual “The Whistler” Pete Trenca Memorial 60 pays tribute to Peter “Program” Trenca and the winner will receive a membership to the Eagles Fan Club at Oswego Speedway. The Eagles Fan Club is an organization that supports supermodified racing at Oswego Speedway and one that Trenca helped start.

Slight Changes to Topless! 200 Week

To close out the 13th consecutive year of SUPRS non-wing supermodified sim racing, Topless! 200 week begins on Sunday August 20 with SUPRS Sunday Night Test-N-Tune.

Then on Monday, August 21 the last Regular 45 of the year happens. Named the Finale’ 45 this race allows drivers to showcase their non-wing talents in a shorter feature before the big 200 lapper at the end of the week.

On Tuesday the racers will  strap on the wing to go for the win in the 50 lap SUPRSNationals race that puts the checkered flag on the 2016-17 Empire State Supermodified Series regional tour.

Tentatively schedule for Wednesday, August 23,  the Rising Star 50 for drivers that have never won a SUPRS feature takes place. The winner of this race will earn a guaranteed starting place for the 13th Annual Topless! 200.

Following the Rising Star 50, the racers will turn up the wick to run for the pole of the 13th Annual Topless! 200.  Just the top two drivers with the top two times are locked into the race. Everyone else has to get to the big show through 10 lap heat races and, if needed, a B-Main.

Everything leads up to Thursday, August 17, when it’s time to go Topless! The rest of the 20 car starting field is set for the 200 lap grind through the aforementioned heat races and B-Main before the drop of the green flag for the 13th Annual Topless! 200.

Follow the Action with SUPRS LIVE!

Fans of SUPRS will again be able to follow along with their favorite SUPRS racers via the  SUPRS LIVE! Timing and Scoring page which shows instantaneous position changes, lap times, penalties, race status, and as noted above, live streaming video. Throughout the non-wing season, anytime there is racing on the SUPRS race server, fans will also be able to quickly check up on how things are going by watching the scrolling ticker throughout the site.
