SUPRS Invades Cali for Golden State Special

Sherman Oaks, CA – April 16, 2016…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), has returned to the San Fernando Valley of California for the Golden State Special 75 at Buckley Speedway.

The banks of Buckley never fail to make for close racing.

This race will be the last one before the traveling troupe of supermodified sim racers move into the Central Valley of California to close out the season at Madera Speedway with the running of the 12th Annual Summit Classic 125 next week.

Buckley’s high banks, high-speed,  and three-eights mile configuration allows for fast lap times and little room for error, sometimes to the point of leaving a lot of wrecked race cars and egos, but always providing a night of sim racing thrills.

The challenges of this track were clear in last year’s race where Steve Callahan survived three attempts at getting the race started and held on for the win in a carnage filled feature. That win was Callahan’s ninth of the 2014-2015 season.

Callahan, after having a dismal season until two weeks ago where he strung together back to back wins, was looking forward to keeping his streak going at Colorado National Speedway last week. However, he struggled with a multitude of computer issues and was unable to race.

Carl “Bonzia” Becker is the only other competing SUPRS driver that has a win at Buckley and said last week, “I am really looking forward to getting back to Buckley and I hope I can get back to victory lane like I did in 2011.”

Becker’s teammate Gary Waldron won the first ever SUPRS race held at this Mike Jackson, DSES, creation for NASCAR Heat way back in 2006.

The track record here dates back to 2008 when last year’s second place finisher and 4-Time SUPRS Gold-Crest Champion, Myles Maxon, stopped the clocks at 11.895 seconds.

Practice starts at 8:00pm and Time Trials for the first Twin will take place at 8:45pm. Racing gets underway at 9:00pm with the drop of the green flag for heats.
