11th SUPRS Online Supermodified Season Starts October 7, 2014

September 30, 2014 – Goshen, IN…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series is ready to embark on its 11th season with an ambitious schedule that has been increased by six additional dates over last year. The total amount of races has been increased to 46 and the Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Championship will be contested across 16 states and Canada.

The SUPRS stars will kick off the new season October 7, 2014 with the “11th Annual Harvest of Speed 75” at LaPorte Speedway. This race is now part of the season long “Indyana Supermod Challenge Series” which features winged and non-wing supermodifieds vying for regional and season points on the same night at tracks located throughout the state of Indiana.

Ray Sand, Jr. is the defending race winner of the Harvest of Speed and joined Myles Maxon (2007-08) as the only two-time winner of the SUPRS Season opener last year. Practice for the “11th Annual Harvest of Speed 75” starts at 8pm with drivers meeting at 8:30pm, time trials at 8:45pm and racing at 9pm.

Sand, Jr. will be going for an unprecedented fifth straight Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Championship and his seventh overall when the supermodifieds invade LaPorte. “The Sandman” will have competition in the form of 2006-07 Wing Champion Myles Maxon. Maxon recently won the 2014 Non-Wing Supermodified Championship and had a stellar run at LaPorte in August.

There’s no slowing down in October as SUPRS treks to New York for the Columbus Day Special at Elba Speedway on Monday October 13, 2014,  followed the next night with the Empire State Super Series race at Byron Speedway. Both races are part of the “Empire State Super Series” with the drivers doing battle in winged supermodifieds at tracks located across the state of New York.

After a scheduled week off for October rain dates, The Black Kat Klassic 50″ at Decatur Speedway in Illinois, where Carl “Bonzia” Becker is the defending race winner, will close out the first month of racing on October 28.

As the for the rest of the seven month-long season, members will find a very aggressive schedule that includes the 11th Annual North Carolina Swing in November, the Mid-Season Championship Twin 35s at Oswego Speedway in January which will award double-points, the always interesting Crazy Canuck Snowball Derby at Cayuga Speedway, a full Florida Speedweeks in February, and Keystone Nationals featuring the 11th Annual Randy Witkum Memorial in March.

Of course the SUPRS “Triple-Crown” wouldn’t be complete without the SUPRS All-Star Classic that takes place in April.

Long-standing events such as the Turkey Shoot in November, Wing Side Up Twin 25s and Christmas Special in December, the Ground Hog Day Derby in February, Veterans Day and Presidents Day Specials, St. Patrick’s Day Grab O’ the Green, and Xtreme Tuesday are all on the schedule once again.

SUPRS will continue to honor supermodified racers lost in competition with the Dion Parish Memorial 62 in December, the Terry Gibson Memorial 100 in January, the Billy Vukovich III Classic 100 in February, and the aforementioned Randy Witkum Memorial 125 in March. Theses races all carry a guaranteed starter bonus for the winner that can be used at the season ending Summit Classic 125 at Madera Speedway in April.

About SUPRS:

The Supermodified Ultimate Racing Series was started in 2004 by supermodified race fans John Davidson and Bob Gangwer as a way to enjoy online racing with their favorite form of motor-sport, the supermodified division.

The team quickly realized that there were many opportunities available with the online racing platform that would provide them a way to give back to the teams, tracks, sponsors and fans of the division. With this thought in mind, and using a suggestion from a member, the league went to a donation to play” format soon after its formation.

By asking members to donate to the newly created Dion Parish Memorial Benevolent Fund for Supermodifieds, SUPRS quickly accumulated funds that allowed the league to donate cash to injured drivers and their families when they needed it the most.

SUPRS has continued to grow using this, until then, unheard of model, and is now in its eleventh season of online racing and is one of the longest continuously operating online racing leagues in history.
