April 24, 2021 – Clovis, CA…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), winged supermodified sim racing season draws to a close this week with the 17th Annual Season Summit Classic Week April 25-28, 2021 at Madera Speedway. The 17th Annual Summit Classic 125 is the forty-first race of what has been one of the most competitive Gold Crest Wing Championship seasons in recent history. It is also the second leg of the SUPRS Triple Crown of Supermodified Sim Racing presented by Icings on Top.

In 16 previous races, three drivers account for nearly all of the wins in this race. Ray Sand, Jr. sits alone on top of the Summit win list with five, the next closest is John Davidson and Bob Gangwer who both have three Summit Classic wins.with three. To this point, no other driver has been able to repeat a win in the Summit Classic.

Last year, Dave Ohh of Union, CT led all the laps and won his first Summit Classic after spinning out in turn two at the start of the race. Ohh’s win also made him the third driver in SUPRS history to have won the Triple Crown of Supermodified Sim Racing presented by Icings on Top. Two former winners, 2019 winner Brad Keysor and 2017 winner Rob Warren rounded out the podium in 2020.

After a season that saw one of the largest growth spurts in the history of SUPRS, all indications point to a great week of racing with good car counts and drivers from six states competing for the grandest prize in all of winged supermodified sim racing-the Summit Classic Crown.

Cars on Track Beginning Sunday 4/25

SUPRS Sunday Night Test-N-Tune kicks off the on-track action April 25. This special edition starts at 7:30pm ET with a sytems checks then the NASCAR Heat winged supermodifieds take to the 1/3 mile to allow drivers that are eligible for the Cherry Breaker 63 to get up to speed. The Cherry Breaker is a special invitation only race for drivers that have never won a SUPRS winged supermodified feature.

To close out this special Sunday Night Test-N-Tune, the drivers will slide into their rFactor winged supermodifieds to get tuned up for the Summit Classic 125. The rFactor part of the night begins around 8:30pm.

Actual racing action starts on Monday, April 26 with the Cherry Breaker 63. This NASCAR Heat race for winged supermodifieds is for registered SUPRS Silver Crest and Gold Crest Members that have never won a SUPRS sanctioned winged supermodified feature event, and have started at least three SUPRS features. The winner becomes the last guaranteed starter of the 17th Annual Summit Classic 125.

The wing supermodifieds roll out at 8:00pm for Hot Laps, and the expected start time for the 63 lap feature is around 9:10pm.

Summit Classic Pole Night Tuesday

On Tuesday, all focus switches to going as fast as possible at the 17th Summit Classic Pole Night.  Drivers will be going as fast as they can because only the top two qualifiers are locked into the Summit Classic. If they don’t make the front row, they’ll be headed for the qualifying Heat Races and possibly the B-Main.Practice for the pole starts on Tuesday 4/27 at 7:30pm. The drivers take to the track at 9:05pm for single car time-trials and the run for the Summit Classic 125 pole. The qualifying heat races will follow at approximately 9:15pm.

Season Summit on Wednesday

Then on Wednesday April 28 the season finale’ for the 41 race, SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Championship takes place with the running of the 17th Annual Summit Classic 125 at Madera Speedway. The SUPRS racers will attempt to add their name to the elite list of just eight different drivers that have won this virtual sim race around the “West Coast Home of the Supermodifieds.”

The night begins with Systems Checks at 7:30pm. The first practice session is reserved for Summit Classic Rookies and starts at 7:45pm ET. Drivers that have started a previous Summit Classic take the track at 8:15pm. The Drivers Meeting follows hot laps from 8:30-8:40pm.

The B-Main is set for 8:45pm for non-qualified cars, but if that isn’t needed a final warmup will take it’s place and go until 8:55pm. At 9:00pm pre-race festivities including interviews, National Anthem, Awards Ceremonies and Driver Introductions begin when SUPRS LIVE! @ 9 goes on the air.

SUPRS veteran, Carl Becker has been named the Grand Marshall of the event and he will give the command for the drivers to strap into their winged supermodifieds to make final preparation for the drop of the green flag of the 17th Annual Summit Classic 125 at 9:10pm.

Summit Classic Part of Triple Crown

Adding to the pressure of just finishing the big race, is the fact that it’s also the second race of the 2021 Triple Crown of Supermodified Sim Racing presented by Icings on Top. To date, just four drivers have won the Triple Crown which also includes the SUPRS All-Star 200, and the Topless! 200 for non-wing supermodifieds. Ray Sand, Jr. was the first to do it in 2011. It took six years before Rob Warren became the second. Then more recently, Dave Ohh and Brad Keysor have secured a Triple Crown. Only Sand, Jr. and Warren have won a “perfect” Triple Crown by winning all three races in the same calendar year.

Triple Crown Winners:
  • Ray Sand, Jr.: 2011
  • Rob Warren: 2017
  • Dave Ohh: 2020
  • Brad Keysor: 2021
