January 3, 2021 – Goshen, IN…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), racers are ready to let the snowballs fly at the 17th Annual Crazy Canuck Snowball Derby and Can-Am Challenge on January 5, 2021 at Delaware Speedway. It’s the wackiest, wildest and zaniest supermodified sim race of the year and more fun than you can throw a snowball at.
Craziest Format of the Year
The Crazy Canuck Snowball Derby has the craziest format of the winged supermodified sim racing season and is like no other in all of sim racing. First, all of the SUPRS racers have to Time Trial. After time trials they’ll be put on two man “Snowball Derby Challenge” teams where the slowest driver from time-trials is paired with the fastest, the second fastest with the second slowest and so on.
After the teams are set, all the drivers will have to run a heat race. They’ll have to hustle to get into the top three places if they want to be eligible for the “Canadian Pursuit,” a special six lap race where all the eligible drivers line up single file. If a driver gets passed he’s out of the race and is scored accordingly as each one drops out.

The finish of the Canadian Pursuit sets the starting line up of the 50 lap feature for the those nine drivers, with everyone else from the heats and maybe even a B-Main lining up behind them.
Points for Every Event Add Up
As the drivers advance through the night, they’ll be doing their best to score as many points as possible in every event they run. From time trials, through the heats, to the feature, those points keep adding up until the end of the night where the two-man team with the most combined points wins the overall Snowball Derby Challenge Championship, and each driver of the winning team gets a bonus of 10 extra Season Championship points.
Could a Canuck win Can-Am Challenge?
For the first time in many years, it won’t be a foregone conclusion that Team USA will take home the Can-Am Challenge which is part of the event. It’s been a while since a Canadian competed regularly on the SUPRS championship trail, but with the addition of rookie John Held of Hagersville, ON, CAN to the roster, there’s a chance that Team Canada could bring home the Can-Am Challenge for the first time since 2009.
Although he’ll represent his home country on his own, the proud Canuck will be flying the Maple Leaf high against Team USA which will be represented by a randomly drawn American driver after Time Trials. Held will go for Canadian glory in his NAPA Auto Parts #17 at a track that turned out many fine Canadian supermodified drivers down through the years and still hosts the very popular Harvy Lennox Memorial for the International Supermodified Association, (ISMA).
If Held can pull off the win in the feature, he will join Sean Gibbs as just the second Canadian to see the checkered flag first and will increase his chances for Team Canada to win the Can-Am Challenge for the third time in the history of the Snowball Derby.
