SUPRS First Ever rFactor Mod Built by Doug “Flash” Forgue

May 26, 2015 – Goshen, IN… They say that “the best things come to those that wait,” and even though it’s been a long wait, The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), has released what they believe is the best online sim supermodified in existence with their highly anticipated version of the Oswego Speedway Non-Wing Supermodified.

Designed by Doug “Flash” Forgue with help by former SUPRS member Joe “Rabbit” Achzet, this brand new rFactor mod has been over six years in the making, and with its use, will mark the first time in SUPRS 11 year history that the league will not be running NASCAR Heat for regularly scheduled races.

“This has been a long time coming,” stated league co-founder John Davidson. “We originally kicked around the idea of going to rFactor as a platform when the game was first released, but then we didn’t have a modder to tackle the project.

“So we just kept on racing Heat. Then Doug came along and while some people were talking about going to NASCAR 2003, we all felt it would be better to leap-frog that game and go right to rFactor.

“Doug started the project, then he went into the Army and things kind of got on hold until he got settled in there. Eventually Joe Achzet joined the league and he began to help along with Rob Warren who had spent a lot of time racing rFactor in other leagues.

“Things were going pretty good for a while and we were just about ready to release, but Doug got married, and the project got put on hold again. It took Dave Soja and Art Palmer and the guys at Xtreme, (Xtreme Short Track Sim Racing), to pick it up, dust it off and help us get it to the point where we could finish it.”

Joe Gosek

Joe Gosek is one of the real life supermodified racers that not only has their car in the new SUPRS mod for rFactor, but also offered important insight into non-wing supermodified s.

With extensive and exhaustive research and a dedication to offer the absolute best looking and most accurate supermodified available for online racing, this project has been the most ambitious that SUPRS has ever undertaken.

Over the last six years , SUPRS consulted the current leading non-wing supermodified chassis builders, (Joe Hawksby, Jr. of Hawk Jr. Chassis and Paul Colloca of Xtreme Chassis LLC), to come up with accurate chassis designs. Then went further by asking current Oswego Speedway drivers, Michael Barnes, Jerry Curran, Bobby Haynes, Jr., as well as Oswego Speedway track champions Otto Sitterly Joe Gosek, their opinions of how non-wing supermodifieds change over the course of 12, 35, 45, 75, and 200 lap races.

Barnes and Haynes, Jr. were critical members of the Alpha Test team, helping to set up baseline set ups that were very similar to the real-world non-wing supermodifieds that they race at Oswego Speedway.

Second generation supermodified racer Gene Lee Gibson offered his vast knowledge of not only non-wing supermodified racing but what all supermodifieds should do at Oswego Speedway. Supermodified racer and mechanical engineer, Bob Bogwicz was integral in helping to establish baseline tire temps and proper camber and castor rates.

The new SUPRS NW V1 for rFactor was then ready to go back into Alpha testing and the XSTSR league not only helped adjust the tire physics, but also lent a race server to SUPRS to test that file. The mod then spent a month in Beta Testing with a select group of SUPRS members on a new dedicated server built by Rob Warren. In the meantime, Jake Zoll of JakesSite.com rebuilt the paint template adding mandatory graphics as Kevin Timmins of BreezeGraphics.com spent countless hours on perfecting real supermodified drivers paint jobs, as Steve Callahan, (a SUPRS member for 10 years), rushed to get paints done for members and rookie cars. Finally it was time for long-time member Chris Meyers to began the tedious work on going through the file structures.

“We are finally to the point where we feel comfortable releasing the new rFactor mod and we could not have never done this without the help of a lot of people and the stead-fast dedication of our core group of members,” stated SUPRS co-founder Bob Gangwer.

“It was critical to all of us here, but especially to John and me that we got this thing right because for SUPRS, it’s not just about having a cool car to race online. For us, it’s all about how can we use online racing to help bring awareness to the real supermodified division and ultimately will the mod be good enough to encourage people to want to donate to the Dion Parish Memorial Benevolent Fund for Supermodifieds.”

He explained further, “There’s a whole bunch of guys that left because they didn’t want to run NASCAR Heat, and while anyone is free to come and go as they please, the one’s that stuck it out, enjoyed Heat for what it was and spent time building friendships online and in life are the ones that I want to dedicate this mod too. They deserve it more than anyone.”

The SUPRS Gold Crest Non-Wing Championship presented by 1st to Finish Docks & Hoists kicks off on June 2nd with the Port City Kick-Off 75 and will run through the second week of August using the new rFactor non-wing supermodified and Oswego Speedway built by Doug Forgue.

About KTimmins77

Supermodified fan for over 30 years. Heard about this MOD and had to give it try! Been doing graphic art and design for along time. Owner of Breezegraphics Supermodified Art. Specializing in Vinyl Stickers and Window Clings. So designing my own paint scheme is right up my alley. :) Looking to enjoy some SUPRS racing and meet some new friends. Picked #77 in honor of "The King of Supermodifieds" Bentley Warren. I'll never forget that ragged old car (former swift 10pins) he used to muscle around The Steel Palace in the 70's.
