May 27, 2021 – Speedway, IN…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), hits the track for the summer season of non-wing supermodified sim racing with the 17th Annual Port City Kick-Off, June 1 at Oswego Speedway.
Challenging Format
SUPRS Port City Kick-Off has nearly always used the same format of qualifying heat races followed by the feature, and this year is no different. Drivers will line up for the 10 lap heats based on the SUPRS “Points Won Handicap System” which is an accumulation of points from the last three SUPRS races by each driver. The more a driver wins, the further back he will start in his 10 lap heat.
They m ust then finish in a qualifying spot to make it into the main event. This format is essentially the same one that the real supermodified racers used each time they rolled into the real Oswego Speedway through most of the famed track’s history.
The evening is higlighted by a 50 lap feature race where the top dogs will again see their starting place inverted based on their handicap.
Hard to Repeat at Port City
In all, there have been 11 different drivers, in 16 years, sitting in SUPRS Victory Lane at The Port City Kick-Off on opening night. Of those just five have been fortunate enough to win the race more than once, and just one has has seen the checkered flag first more than twice.
Myles Maxon, John Davidson, Ray Sand, Jr., Rob Warren, and Keith Powell, each have won the opening night race for the non-wing supermodified sim racing class multiple times. Not surprisingly, all are also SUPRS champions.
The reigning SUPRS Gold Crest Non-Wing Supermodified Champion, Dave Ohh, is the defending winner of the race, and will try to become the first back to back winner of the Port City Kick-Off Myles Maxon did it in the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
