Steve Callahan and Ray Sand, Jr. File Wins in Tax Day Double Trouble Twins at Colorado National Speedway

Dacono, CO – April 14, 2015…Steve Callahan and Ray Sand, Jr.  picked up the feature wins in the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series Tax Day Double Trouble Twins Tuesday night at Colorado National Speedway. Myles Maxon and Ray Sand, Jr. rounded out the top three finishers in the first feature while Bob Gangwer and Chris Meyers placed second and third in the last 50 lap feature of the night. Both Callahan and Sand, Jr. won by over four seconds.

“Steady” Steve Callahan and “The Sandman” Ray Sand, Jr. won by large margins at CNS.

Steve Callahan explained his win saying, “The first race the car was awesome. Once I broke free at the start I got into a really good rhythm and was able to drive a way while everyone else was racing real hard behind me.”

“The second race I screwed up qualifying and I put myself behind the eight ball starting fifth because it’s so hard to pass here. The car was good though once we finally got to racing,” he said.

“Chris and I were having a great race for third, then at one point I wasn’t sure if I got into him or not so I laid up, let him gather it up and gave him his spot back. When I did that it messed up my rhythm and then Myles caught up to me and passed me. All in all though it was a lot of fun with all three of us racing hard. Congrats to Ray on the second race he was really good,” Callahan concluded.

It was the second win a row for Callahan and with only five races left, he’s focused on catching Myles Maxon for the SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Championship. “What I gained on Myles in the first race for points I gave them right back in the second but we’ll keep trying hard to stay within striking distance of Myles,” stated the Cuyahoga Falls, OH racer.

After missing many races at the start of the season, Ray Sand, Jr. after finishing on the podium for both features, has now closed within 17 points of Carl Becker for a top five in the SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Championship. Sand, Jr. one here last year and was just as pleased with his win this season at CNS.

“Oh man, I’m happy,” Sand, Jr. exclaimed. “A first and third I’ll take that for sure! It was a good night.”

Said Sand, Jr. of his races, “The second race, as Myles alluded to, everyone was a lot faster but I hit a .292, (second lap), with four laps to go so my car was great  from start to finish.”

“The first race though I just couldn’t get hooked up,” he continued. “I dont’ know what happened there but I was tucked up under Myles racing him hard and it was one of those deals where I lost him and then all the sudden he was right there and I may have gotten into him. That dropped me back but it’s online racing and it’s no big deal.”

Callahan won the Fast 4 Dash to set the line up for the first feature. Ray Sand, Jr. set a new all-time track record when he stopped the clocks after running a 14.297 second lap in time trials for the second feature.

As the season winds down, there’s no rest for the SUPRS Gold Crest Division racers as they swing back to the east to conclude the 2015 Indyana Supermod Challenge.

Competing over the course of two nights, they’ll have their work cut out for them with 250 total feature laps to be run using wing and non-wing supermodifieds. Starting at the Salem Speedway on April 21 they will race 75 lap features in each style of online supermodified. Moving north to Indianapolis Raceway Park for the last night of the five race series that started with the Harvest of Speed Season Opener this past October, the SUPRS racers will run two fifty lap features and one driver will come away as champion of the Indyana Supermod Challenge.

Practice both nights begins at 8:00pm. Time Trials follow with racing set to start at 9:00pm.
