October 29, 2023 – New Bremen, OH…Zach Sears of Elyria, OH bagged his first Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), Black Kat Klassic win Sunday night at New Bremen Speedway, and with it broke Dave “SpeedyMan” Ohh’s three year stranglehold on the popular SUPRS race. October 27, 2023- Goshen, IN…After a break in action following the 20th Annual North Carolina Swing, the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), thrills resume on a special Sunday night show on October 29, 2023 with the Black Kat Klassic at New Bremen Speedway. This race is also as the first of the 2023-24 SUPRS Ohio State 500 Series.

Storied Track History

New Bremen Speedway is the seventh different track to host the SUPRS Black Kat Klassic. With a history dating back to 1926 as a dirt track, the venue had a storied history even before being paved in 1966, then returning to dirt in the late 70s.

New Bremen Speedway, while relatively flat, and mostly single groove, was sometimes as treacherous as the more banked ovals that the supermodifieds raced on. The wide sweeping corners, and relatively short chutes of the fast ½ mile oval always kept the drivers on their toes wondering if their right rear tire would hold up.

SUPRS history is short at this now defunct real speedplant, having only raced here once in the past-last year’s final race of the Ohio State 500 Series, but SUPRS hopes to keep the memory of this storied bastion of speed alive as part of their own virtual tour through Ohio.

Ohh Favored to Capture Black Kat

Dave “SpeedyMan” Ohh is the odds-on favorite to capture the Black Kat Klassic, having won the last three in a row, and having also dominated the 2023 St. Patrick’s Day Grab O’ the Green race at New Bremen last year. Ohh became the first back to back winner of the Black Kat Klassic in 2021, then joined Rob Warren as just the second three-time winner last year. Ohh is running a partial schedule this season, but has stated time and again that he likes the longer races, and with this show being 100 laps, it certainly fits in his wheelhouse.

While Ohh as won some real hair-raising Black Kat Klassics, including one at Myrtle Beach that had 10 cautions that totaled 35 extra laps, if the last race held at New Bremen, (the St. Patrick’s Day race last year), is any indication, he won’t have to worry as much about having good luck missing the spills since that 100 lapper only had one caution.
