Second of Five Race Empire State Super Series Regional Tour is Blind Date
January 21, 2018 – Goshen, IN…The second race of the year-long Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), 2017-18 Empire State Super Series, (ESS), Regional Tour is a Blind Date night. And like a real blind date, the drivers don’t know exactly what to expect.
Tradition of Blind Date Night Goes Way Back
The SUPRS Blind Date Night has been a tradition since the very start of the oldest supermodified sim racing sanction when it ran four races in one night on New Year’s Eve. Those races were known as the New Year’s Eve 4-n-1 Bash.
After the SUPRS Members decided they’d rather spend time with their family and friends on New Year’s Eve, drawing one out of a three potential tracks continued on for the ESS Tour and the tradition continued.
Long ESS Season
The ESS season is generally composed of anywhere between three to six races and run over the course of one year and two SUPRS Gold Crest Seasons. Each race uses the same format of Time Trials, handicapped Heat Races and an inverted start for the Feature.
The tour includes only those tracks in the state of New York and, since 2015, a mixture of NASCAR Heat and rFactor gaming platforms.
Three Former ESS Champs Expected
Defending ESS Champion Rob Warren, and 2013-14 ESS Champ Steve Callahan sit first and second in the current ESS points with 2015-16 ESS Champion Bob Gangwer fourth behind Kyle Clark. All four drivers should be racing Tuesday as they are also in the top five of the 2017-18 SUPRS Gold Crest Championship point standings
Powell Looking for New York Love
SUPRS most recent feature winner Keith Powell of Ohio has never won an ESS Tour feature. He is second in Gold Crest Championship points and would love nothing more than to avenge his loss in the first ESS show of the season.
At that race, (the Christmas Special at Airborne Speedway in December), Powell led the race from the drop of the green flag until contact with Rob Warren on the white flag lap put him out of contention for the win.
