June 14, 2020 – Goshen, IN…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), 15th Annual Jim Shampine Memorial is June 16, 2020 at Oswego Speedway and the race honors the memory of the man that helped shape modern supermodified racing.
Shampine the Legend
Jim Shampine was a seven-time Oswego Speedway Champion that not only won more feature events at Oswego Speedway, (87), than any other driver, but also has three Oswego Speedway International Classic 200 wins to his name, is a two-time winner of the Star Speedway International Classic 200, helped found, and was the 1977 International Supermodified Association champion, and is known as the father of the modern radical off-set supermodified.
Prior to his death in the 1982 Modified 200 at Oswego Speedway, Shampine’s legacy was already well established and continues on to this day as one the one most talked about in all supermodified circles across the country.
Official practice for the SUPRS 15th Annual Jim Shampine Memorial begins at 8:00pm. The drivers meeting is at 8:30pm. Time Trials lock in the Elite 8 qualifiers at 8:45pm and racing is set to start at 9:05pm with the first of two 10 lap heat races, (if needed) prior to the 80 lap feature.
Full details for the Jim Shampine Memorial are on the SUPRS Schedule. SUPRS members should check the Forums for the latest info on server times and passwords.

June 7, 2020 – Goshen, IN…This Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), keeps the summer supermodified sim racing season going on June 9 with a “Regular 45” at Oswego Speedway.
One of Three NASCAR Heat Races
The June 9 race is the first of three races that will use the NASCAR Heat sim racing platform. This race is also part of the SUPRS/HeatFinder.net NASCAR Heat Supermodified Challenge which is open to the public. The only requirement is that a driver has registered his intent to compete as a Silver Crest division driver using the SUPRS join form, and has downloaded the SUPRS NW2 mod and SUPRS Oswego Speedway v2 for NASCAR Heat. Both are available at TheModSquad.info as well as SUPRS.net.
Ohh on a Roll
Last week Dave “SpeedyMan” Ohh stayed on a roll, winning his tenth SUPRS feature in 11 starts after picking up his first SUPRS Port City Kick-Off victory. Ohh is one of the most accomplished NASCAR Heat sim racers of all time and is expected to be the class of the field once again this week. He’ll have to hustle though, as the format places drivers with better finishes towards the back, and he’s only going to have 45 laps to get to the front.

April 24, 2020 – Clovis, CA…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), winged supermodified sim racing season draws to a close with the 16th Annual Season Summit Classic Week April 26-29, 2020 at Madera Speedway. The 16th Annual Summit Classic 125 is the forty-third race of the 2019-2020 Gold Crest Wing Championship and the second leg of the SUPRS Triple Crown of Supermodified Sim Racing presented by Icings on Top.
In 15 previous races, only seven drivers have won this challenging race, with Ray Sand, Jr. being the all-time winner with five Summit Classic wins. Last year, Brad Keysor of Liverpool, NY won the race as a rookie.
SUPRS officials are expecting a good car count of drivers hailing from upwards of 10 different states competing for the crown jewel of the winged supermodified sim racing season.
Cars on Track Begining Sunday 4/26
SUPRS Sunday Night Test-N-Tune kicks off the on-track action April 26. This special edition starts at 7:00pm ET with a sytems checks then the Super HEAT Modified Tour hit the track first for hot laps and a 25 lap race sim as they prepare for the exciting return of the “Ground Pounder Modified 75 on Monday.”
After the modifieds complete their race sim, the NASCAR Heat winged supermodifieds take to the 1/3 mile to allow drivers that are eligible for the Cherry Breaker 63 to get up to speed at 7:30pm. The Cherry Breaker is a race just for drivers that have never won a SUPRS winged supermodified feature.
Finally, to close out this special Sunday Night Test-N-Tune, the drivers will slide into their rFactor winged supermodifieds to get tuned up for the Summit Classic 125. The rFactor part of the night begins at 9pm.
NASCAR Heat Monday Night
Racing action starts on Monday, April 27 with two NASCAR Heat races and two different types of race cars on the same night. First up is the Cherry Breaker 63.
This special, invitation only, race is for registered SUPRS Silver Crest and Gold Crest Members that have never won a SUPRS sanctioned winged supermodified feature event, and have finished at least three SUPRS features, and the winner becomes the last guaranteed starter of the 16th Annual Summit Classic 125.
The wing supers take to the track at 7:15pm for Hot Laps, and the expected start time for the 63 lap feature is around 8:10pm.
Following the Cherry Breaker 63 is the return of the SUPRS Ground Pounder Modified 75. In a joint sanctioning venture with The Mod Squad and Heat Finder, the Ground Pounder Modified 75 features the Super HEAT Modified Tour going for 75 action packed laps at Madera Speedway using the NASCAR Heat sim racing platform.
Organizers are expecting a good turnout of talented sim racers from all three sanctions, as well as outsiders and outlaws, who will be showcasing their skills in the ground pounding pavement modifieds. The last time the Ground Pounder Modified 75 was run in 2013, Myles Maxon was the winner.
Hot laps for the modifieds start at 8:45pm on The Mod Squad NASCAR Heat race server, with the drivers meeting taking place on the Heat Finder TeamSpeak3 voice server. The feature event is scheduled to take the green flag at 9:05pm ET.
On Tuesday, all focus switches to going as fast as possible at the 16th Summit Classic Pole Night. Drivers will be fighting for the best seat in the house when the field takes the green flag for the 125 lap feature on Wednesday because only the top two qualifiers are locked into the Summit Classic. If they don’t make the front row, they’ll be headed for the qualifying Heat Races and B-Main later in that same night
Practice for the pole starts on Tuesday 4/28 at 8:00pm. The drivers take to the track at 9:05pm for single car time-trials and the run for the Summit Classic 125 pole. The qualifying heat races will follow at approximately 9:15pm.
Season Summit on Tuesday
Then on Wednesday April 29, the season finale’ for the 43 race, SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Championship takes place with the running of the 16th Annual Summit Classic 125 at Madera Speedway. The SUPRS racers will attempt to add their name to the elite list of just seven different drivers that have won the one this race around the “West Coast Home of the Supermodifieds.”
The night begins with Systems Checks at 7:30pm. The first practice session is at 7:45 pm for qualified cars. Summit Classic Rookies hit the track at 8:00 and the track opens for everyone at 8:15pm. The Drivers Meeting follows hot laps from 8:30-8:40pm.
The B-Main is set for 8:45pm for non-qualified cars, but if that isn’t needed a final warmup will take it’s place and go until 8:55pm. At 9:00pm pre-race festivities including interviews, National Anthem, and Driver Introductions begin when SUPRS LIVE! @ 9 goes on the air.
The green flag for the 15th Annual Topless! 200 is scheduled to drop over a fine field of supermodified sim racers at 8:30pm.
Summit Classic Part of Triple Crown
Adding to the pressure of just finishing the big race, is the fact that it’s also the second race of the 2020 Triple Crown of Supermodified Sim Racing presented by Icings on Top. To date, just two drivers have won the Triple Crown which also includes the SUPRS All-Star 200, and the Summit Classic 125 for winged supermodifieds.
Triple Crown Winners:
Ray Sand, Jr.: 2011
Rob Warren: 2017
Championship Not Decided
While it looks like Rob Warren has a lock on his fourth Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Championship and seventh overall since he’s been a Gold Crest member, there is still a mathamatical chance that Keith Powell could overcome the 30 point deficit he’s looking at going into the final race of the season. Last year Powell finished second at this race, and traditionally does well in the longer races. Last week after winning the Golden State Classic at Buckley Speedway Powell said, “I’m going into Summit week with some momentum. I’m usually a top three care there, but I have to do a little more work before that. I’ll make a couple small changes, but it’s a long race and I love those.”
Warren is a master at getting around the tricky Madera oval having set on the front row for the Summit Classic three times, and won the race in 2017, so it’s really up in the air as to who the 2019-20 SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Champion will be.
In fact, there’s a real battle throughout the top five, and while nobody other than Warren or Powell have a shot at the championship, there’s plenty of possibilities of the rest of the top runners swapping places before the checkered flag falls on the season.
