Second Year at Myrtle Beach

After running the race for much of its existence at Decatur Speedway, series officials moved the Black Kat Klassic to Myrtle Beach Speedway. In what proved to be a thrilling race, Myrtle Beach was once again chosen as the host for the rFactor race. With a rough surface, steeply banked corners and lap times just a whisker over 16 seconds, this track last year produced plenty of hair-raising thrills.

Rodrigues Looks to End Black Kat Curse

Last year, Nelson Rodrigues of Stoneham, MA looked to have the, well, cat in the bag, so to speak. But with just two laps to go his luck ran out and he spun out handing the lead and win to Rob Warren.

It’s a safe assumption that Rodrigues is hoping to turn that misfortune around and always seems to do well at tracks with high-banks and sustained speeds like Myrtle Beach Speedway.

Mojo is Back for Warren

Last week reigning SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Champion Rob Warren got back into the groove of winning. Locked out of the winner’s circle for the first five races of the season, Warren got his mojo back when he cleaned up at Southern National Raceway Parka nd Concord Motorsports Park on the second night of the 15th Annual North Carolina Swing.

Last year, with his win over Rodrigues, Warren became the fifth two-time winner of the Black Kat Klassic in SUPRS history. He joined Ray Sand, Jr., Myles Maxon, Carl Becker and John Davidson on that list. In all there have been just seven winners total of this race.

Myrtle Beach, SC – October 24, 2017… Stoneham, MA racer Nelson Rodrigues was so close to victory that he could taste the winner’s circle cider. Different Venue-Same Thrills Expected

After many years at Decatur Speedway in Illinois, the race moved to Red Ball Raceway in Kentucky last year. Now, for the second time in as many years, the SUPRS racers will find themselves faced with the challenges of another new venue in Myrtle Beach Speedway.

Early test sessions show that this race track should prove to be just as unpredictable and nerve-wracking as Red Ball was last year. The track has several pronounced bumps that act to upset the high-powered supermodifieds, yet there are also many good passing zones on the half-mile in Myrtle Beach.

Powell on the Prowl

Defending Black Kat Klassic winner Keith Powell, who sits third in SUPRS Gold Crest Division Wing Supermodified Championship points , hopes to join Ray Sand, Jr., Myles Maxon, John Davidson and Carl Becker, as a multi-time Black Kat Klassic winner. Powell is also on the prowl for his first feature win of the season, having finished in the top three just twice so far in six races.

2006 winner Steve Callahan, and 2015 victor Rob Warren, are also on the list of potential multi-time Black Kat Klassic winners. Callahan led a good part of the recent Hickory Hustle only to be blocked out of victory lane and a second North Carolina Swing Championship by winner Rob Warren.
