Wing, Non-Wing Supermodifieds Take to Banks of Bristol December 3

December 1, 2019 – Goshen, IN…The racers of the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), resume racing with their wing, and non-wing, supermodifieds at the 16th Annual Wing Side Up Twin 25s on the wicked fast 1/2 mile high-banks of Bristol Motor Speedway on December 3, 2019.

Two Classes, Two Sim Racing Platforms

The Wing Side Up Twin 25s have always been a challenge to win, and the event has seen fluctuation in the format since the first event was run in 2004 that add to that challenge.

After a several years of using the rFactor sim racing platform for both 25 lap features, this year drivers will do battle in the rFactor game for the wing supermodified part of the event, then switch to NASCAR Heat and their non-wing supermodifieds for the second feature. This is the first time since 2014 that NASCAR Heat will be used for any part of this race.

The racers strap into their rFactor wing supermodifieds for Time Trials and Heat Races for first Twin 25 lap feature. Then they hop into their non-wing NASCAR Heat supermodifieds, line up in a random start, and go hammer down for the second Twin 25 to see who is the best on the Bristol Banks.

Drivers Aiming for Bristol Bonuses

While having two points paying shows, in two different types of supermodifieds, and two different games on the same night at a treacherous track like Bristol Motor Speedway may seem to be enough of a challenge, multiple chances for extra bonus points just add to the risk/reward factor.

The SUPRS Double Down, SUPRSChallenge, and SUPRSCharger, increase the rewards, and the risks at the Wing Side Up Twin 25s.

For example:

  • The SUPRSCharger is in effect for both features. This awards ten bonus points awarded to the driver that improves the most positions from his starting place.
  • The SUPRSChallenge pays 20 bonus points to any driver that starts last and wins either feature.

The SUPRS Double Down though, is a bonus that can quickly change a driver’s fortunes. If a driver can win both 25 lap features he gets 25 bonus points added to his Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Championship total!

While all of those may seem somewhat easy, the Double Down has only been claimed twice, (even though Gary Waldron won both 38 lap features at the first event in 2004, there was no such thing as the Double Down). Doug Heveron and John Davidson are the only drivers other than Waldron to have won both features on the same night. Heveron doing it in 2007 and Davidson in 2012.

It’s probably no surprise, that in a quick 25 lap sprint, that the SUPRSChallenge has never been claimed at the Wing Side Up Twin 25s.

Double Details

The SUPRS racers are ready to strap in and go hammer down in their supermodfiieds for the Wing Side Up Twin 25s on the big banks of Bristol Motor Speedway on Tuesday December 3, 2019. Official practice starts at 8pm with the Driver’s Meeting at 8:30pm. The drivers strap into their winged supermodifieds for Time Trials at 8:45 and the racing begins at 9:05pm. The non-wing supermodified 25 lap feature should start at about 9:30pm.

October 19, 2019 – Goshen, IN…A new track has been added to the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), 16th Annual North Carolina Swing that takes place over the course of three nights on October 22-24, 2019. After a long run at Caraway Speedway, the series has decided to move to the high-banked 3/8 mile Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, NC for the second race of the swing on October 22.

“It’s always a tough decision to stop racing at a track that has a long history on our schedule,” said SUPRS co-founder Bob Gangwer. “The reality is, we just feel that Orange County can provide an even better racing environment for the drivers and the fans, and we are always looking at options that make for a better supermodified sim racing show.”

“On top of that, the real supermodifieds have raced at OCS, (Orange County Speedway), on a couple of occasions and we try very hard to showcase real tracks where the real division races at,” added Gangwer.

Other Tracks Remain Same

Beyond the change from Caraway to Orange County, the grueling run through “The Tarheel State” will have a familiar look for the other four races over the course of three nights from October 22-24, 2019. Dasera Speedway, Concord Motorsports Park, and Southern National Motorsports Park, which was added in 2016 and replaced Coastal Plains Speedway, are all a part of the North Carolina Swing tradition in 2019. And of course it wouldn’t be the North Carolina Swing without the crowning jewel of the five race spectacular; The Hickory Hustle at Hickory Motor Speedway.

2019 NORTH CAROLINA SWING Format

Swing Begins with NASCAR Heat and Dasera Speedway

The series kicks off Tuesday at Dasera Speedway as the first race of the swing and a 40 lap feature. The swing then moves to Orange County Speedway on the same night for another 40 lap feature.

Both races are part of the SUPRS/HeatFinder.net Supermodified Challenge and will use the SUPRS W v6.0 mod for NASCAR Heat.

rFactor Races Headline Second Night

On Wednesday, October 23, the series switches gears to the rFactor sim racing platform as it moves to Concord Motorsports Park, and Southern National Motorspots Park. Each race will have a 50 lap feature using the the SUPRS W v7.3 mod for rFactor.

Hickory Hustle Determines NC Swing Champ

The fifth and final race of the North Carolina Swing at Hickory Motor Speedway, is ultimately the most important because it’s the one that determine the 2019 NC Swing Champion.

The Hickory Hustle is the invite only, 75 lap, winner take all event. After the first four races, the North Carolina Swing points, (which are a total of a drivers feature finish points), are added up and the top eight are invited to the Hickory Hustle to vie for the North Carolina Swing Championship.

Adding to the intense challenge of winning the NC Swing Championship is the fact that those eight drivers will draw for their starting place for a completely random feature event line-up.
