Last Race Before Summer Break for SUPRS

Goshen, IN July 15, 2017…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), runs their last race of July using the “Regular 45” format of supermodified sim racing this Tuesday at Oswego Speedway. This race is the last one of the season before the annual summer break which allows members time to head out to support real supermodified racing around the country.

Promotional posters like this from BreezeGraphics.com are as hot as the July sun!

Warren in Command

Rob Warren has taken a commanding lead in the SUPRS Gold Crest Non-Wing Championship XIII and has three feature wins in a row. While his domination of the points is unquestionable, Warren isn’t unbeatable and many of the SUPRS racers would love nothing more than to keep the 1st to Finish Race Servers driver out of Oswego Speedway victory lane.

Winning is Everything

Steve Callahan won the June 45 lap feature and stated recently, “The points are out the window, I’m only going for wins now,” and is one of those drivers that has his sights set firmly on crossing the starting line first after 45 quick laps. Besides this win, “Steady” Steve has had a miserable season. A win on Tuesday might ease the pain of an otherwise lackluster season where Callahan could end up out of the top five in points.

Clark Can’t Wait

You can bet that Kyle “The Cobra” Clark will fight Callahan right to the finish as he looks to secure his first Oswego Speedway non-wing supermodified sim racing win. If he is able to do so, taking the win will mark a career goal he set out to do when he became a SUPRS Member a little over a year ago. Standing on the podium for the last three races has made the The 2016 SUPRS Icings on Top Rookie of the Year even more hungry for that “W” at Oswego. He has repeatedly stated, “All I want to do is win at Oswego,” so keep your eyes on the driver of the Disturbed Motorsports number 38.

100 Laps, Double Points Highlight Mid-Season Championship

Extra Distance Could Benefit Drivers Trying to Catch Rob Warren

July 7, 2017 – Goshen, IN…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS) Mid-Season Championship for non-wing supermodified sim racing is coming on Tuesday July 11, 2017. The race that features a big 100 lap feature paying double points is just the ticket that some drivers need if they want to catch series points leader Rob Warren.

Comfortable Point Lead for Warren

Warren took a big jump in the Gold Crest Non-Wing Supermodified Championship standings last week when he won swept the Independence Day Twin 25s. In so doing, he became just the third driver in SUPRS history to claim the DoubleDown bonus. That bonus rewards a driver that wins both features in a night with double points on the second feature.

Until he did that, Warren, the 2015 Gold Crest Non-Wing Supermodified Champion, had a narrow lead over 2016 Gold Crest Non-Wing Supermodified Champion Keith Powell. Powell, with two wins, looked to be the early favorite in the championship. But now it seems that Warren is the one everyone is chasing for the second half of the season.

Go Time for Everyone Else

Extra points, bonuses, and special points for being deemed Mid-Season Champion, mean this is the race that the SUPRS drivers look forward to as they try to make some major championship moves. This year, it’s guys like Powell, his teammate Steve Callahan, Domenic Gioia and Kyle Clark that are looking to use this race to stay in the hunt.

Gioia has gotten off to the best season start of his career by finishing on the podium three times in the first six races. Not be overlooked is the fact that Gioia won the Mid-Season Championship in 2014 and comes into the show solidly in the top five of the points.

Callahan Hoping to Avoid Calamity

Of all the other drivers mentioned so far, only Callahan joins Gioia as a former Mid-Season Champion. In fact he is the two-time and defending SUPRS Gold Crest Non-Wing Supermodified Champion. He’s also the only driver other than Warren and Powell to pull down a win so far this year. Callahan is also on the élite list of drivers that have more than one Mid-Season Championship crown with two. He’s the only driver competing that could claim a third. The only issue is, Callahan took a big hit last week when he couldn’t race which caused him to drop out of the top five, so he’ll be anxious to have a good run.

Will the Cobra Strike?

Kyle “The Cobra” Clark has steadily moved his way into the top five of the points. Week in and week out he has knocked on the door for his first feature win at Oswego Speedway. If he can slither away from the bad luck that seems to jump up and bite him in the long distance races, he could very well become a real contender for the championship.

Independence Day Twin 35s a Tradition of Action and Excitement

June 30, 2017 – Goshen, IN…When it comes to the oldest event on the Supermodified Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), Gold Crest Non-Wing Championship calendar, nothing can hold a firecracker to the Independence Day Twins.

The very first points race for the SUPRS Gold Crest Non-Wing Supermodified Championship came on July 6, 2005 with the running of the Independence Day Twin 25s. That makes this event the oldest for non-wing supermodified sim racing. Californian John Davidson and Canadian Sean Gibbs won those races at Jennerstown Speedway.

Jennerstown Speedway hosted the race two other times after that. Then beginning in 2008 the race moved to the newly designed Oswego Speedway. It’s been held there since except for 2011 when it ran at Bristol Motor Speedway.

The format has changed from Twin 25 lap features the first year to Twin 40s and even Twin 45 lappers. However, since 2010, Twin 35 lap contests have been the norm. All of those versions used the NASCAR Heat sim racing gaming platform.  But beginning last year the Independence Day Twins moved to the rFactor platform.

Plenty of Records and Excitement

Excitement, thrills, and record-setting moments have been commonplace throughout the history of this event. In just the second year of the event, SUPRS set the bar high with the first live broadcast of a non-wing supermodified sim racing event. ECT Radio partnered with SUPRS and Kris Heveron won the first of four Independence Day features. Then to the surprise of the radio audience, Gary Waldron won the second feature of the night.

Heveron won at least one of the Twin features starting in 2006. He tallied an impressive two-year run of four total wins. He was also the first driver in SUPRS history to claim the DoubleDown bonus when he swept both features in 2007.

With the lineups based on the SUPRS “Points Won Handicap System,” and drivers hungry for a win, the racing is never lacking in the thrills department. Often unpredictable and always interesting, the Independence Day Twins never disappoints.
