Steady Steve Hopes to Turn Season Around at Stafford

Share SUPRS:

Goshen, IN – March 18, 2016…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), will be racing at the online version of Jack Arute’s Stafford Motor Speedway Tuesday March 22, 2016.

SUPRS Xtreme Tuesday poster

BreezeGraphics.com always goes to the Xtreme when it comes to race posters.

This race is the 34th of the season and will mark the seventh straight year that SUPRS has raced at this venue since being completed in December of 2009. This particular race is modeled after, and named for, one that ran at Stafford for several years and featured the International Supermodified Association along with the New England Midget Association.

Steve Callahan of Cuyahoga Falls, OH excels at this track and is easily the online king of Stafford Motor Speedway. He’s won four of the six  SUPRS races contested so far at Stafford Motor Speedway, taking his first two back to back in 2010-2011, then doing the same in 2014  and 2015.

Steve Callahan winning at SUPRS Stafford Motor Speedway supermodified sim racing event

“Steady” Steve Callahan extended his win streak to five in a row when he won the 2014 SUPRS Xtreme Tuesday event at Stafford Motor Speedway.

When he won in 2014, it marked the fifth SUPRS win in a row for Callahan that season and he had a ‘bounty’ placed on his head.  Then in 2015, while he was embroiled in an intense points battle with Myles Maxon and Rob Warren, he kept his hopes of winning his first SUPRS Championship alive.

This season, “Steady” Steve only has one thought on his mind, getting his first feature win of the season as he has yet to put his Exide Battery sponsored machine in victory lane.

“This year has been a very frustrating one,” began Callahan.  “We haven’t been running very good and have had nothing but bad luck.”

The likable SUPRS racer that has over 500 feature starts went on to say, “Stafford is a place where we think we can turn the season around. This place has been very good to us in the past and we are looking forward to getting back up front and racing for the win.”

Callahan will be joined by a host of other supermodified sim racers when practice begins at 8:00pm Tuesday March 22 with the driver’s meeting to follow at 8:15pm. All of the drivers will be attempting to beat Myles Maxon’s track record of 15.095 when they take to the track at 8:30pm for time-trials. Racing will begin with qualifying heats at 9:oopm

Three Nights, Five Tracks, One Champion, North Carolina Swing Toughest on Schedule

November 1, 2015 – Goshen, IN…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), 12th Annual North Carolina Swing is rightfully considered the toughest multi-race swing on the schedule.

The three-night extravaganza of supermodified sim racing features five different tracks in three nights of racing all based in North Carolina. As the racers vie for the coveted North Carolina Swing Championship Crown they will also be racing for points in the Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Championship.

The series kicks off Tuesday, November 3rd at Dasera Speedway and Caraway Speedway, moves to Concord Motorsports Park and Coastal Plains Speedway the next night and finishes off  at Hickory Motor Speedway on Thursday, November 5th where the winner of challenging “Hickory Hustle 75″ will be crowned North Carolina Swing Champion.

To date, there has been just one driver to win the North Carolina Swing Championship more than once. “Mighty” Myles Maxon. He first did it back to back in 2009 and 2010. Last year Maxon was on a hot-streak with his Tamarack Golf Club. “Swamp Monster” having won three of the first four races of the season.

Without winning a race during the Swing, he battled his way through the pack to take the lead from 2012 NC Swing Champion Carl Becker on lap 38, and then went on to win the Hickory Hustle and claim his third North Carolina Swing Championship.

The most recent winner on the SUPRS trail, Rob Warren, has swept the second night of the Swing for the last two years and will be just as much of a threat to win the overall championship again this year.

Steve Callahan has one of the best finishing records in the history of The Hickory Hustle, yet has never been able to win the race or the North Carolina Swing Championship. He had another great run last year and his third place finish was not indicative of the incredible race he ran.

With 20 bonus points on the line to the driver that can pull off this challenging feat, the SUPRS stars will be out in full force vying for an invitation to the Hickory Hustle.

The Hickory Hustle takes the top eight in points after the first four races and pits them against each other with a random start at Hickory Motor Speedway. It’s just one more reason the North Carolina Swing crown is one of the most sought after, and hardest to win, for the SUPRS drivers.

Two-Day Event Will Crown 8th Annual Mr. Online Supermodified

Goshen, IN – July 26, 2015…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), will join with Xtreme Short Track Sim Racing, (XSTSR), to bring sim supermodified racers the two-day Mr. Online Supermodified spectacular this week on July 27, 28.

SUPRS 8th Annual Mr. Online Supermodfiied

The 8th Annual Mr. Online Supermodified will be part of the six race 2015 Xtreme SUPRS Challenge Championship which is a joint venture between the two online sanctions and has its own point system and championship. Art Palmer, Brian Strickland, and Chris Meyers are tied at the top with 73 points each after the first three races. Ray Sand, Jr. is less than ten points out of the lead with 65 and Tyler Perry is within striking distance at 64 marks.

The first race of this special event takes place on Monday, July 27 on the Xtreme Short Track Sim Racing server using the Gott 2015 Wing Supermodified on the JCR version of Oswego Speedway. Then the very next night on Tuesday, July 28 the action will move to the SUPRS Race Server for non-wing supermodified racing using the SUPRS NW V1 rFactor mod and the SUPRS Oswego Speedway track.

Both feature races will be 75 laps in length and points will be kept for time trials, heat races, and the feature races to decide the 8th Annual Mr. Online Supermodified.

Other awards include:

Mr. Online Supermodified History and Contenders

Kris Heveron of Jensen Beach, FL won the first two Mr. Online Supermodified races and at that time in 2008 and 2009, they were 100 lap affairs with a 25 lap shootout. Last year, current SUPRS Gold Crest Non-Wing Championship point leader, Ray Sand, Jr., held off Myles Maxon to claim his first Mr. Online Supermodified. With points in all three series for 2015, (SUPRS, XSTSR, XSCC), Sand, Jr. will certainly be a threat to win his second crown in a row. If he does he will join Heveron and Bob Gangwer as previous back to back winners.

Sand, Jr. will have his work cut out for him from fellow SUPRS and XSTSR competitors including Dave Soja, the most recent winner on the XSTSR circuit. Soja’s best finish in the Mr. Online Supermodified race was third in 2008. Soja now sits in sixth place in XSTSR points and eighth in both SUPRS and XSCC points.

Rob Warren is a former Mr. Online Supermodified and only eight points behind Sand, Jr. in the SUPRS standings. Warren will look to improve on his 12th place in XSCC points. Warren has not yet put any points on the XSTSR board.

Another former Mr. Online Supermodified, Keith Powell, may not have any points with Xtreme or the Xtreme SUPRS Challenge Championship, but has moved to within striking distance of the SUPRS points lead only 18 behind Sand, Jr.

His teammate “Steady” Steve Callahan has never been Mr. Online Supermodified, but will use this two-day event to chip away at the points keeping him from his first SUPRS championship. Callahan also has his eye on the XSCC title where he now hangs onto sixth place with a deficit of only 11 points to first overall.

At the top of the XSCC heap are Art Palmer, Brian Strickland, and Chris Meyers with all of them being tied for first in the standings. Palmer and Meyers have scored points in all three championships, while Strickland has yet to race with SUPRS even though he is registered. There’s no question that these three have an on-track rivalry as intense as their off-track friendship.

Stickland and Palmer, in particular, have battled mightily on the XSTSR circuit. Strickland leads the XSTSR standings and won the spring championship for wing supermodifieds.

The soft-spoken, but hard charging Palmer won the non-wing XSTSR championship, finished second to Strickland in the spring championship and trails Strickland in the current summer wing sim supermodified championship at XSTSR by just a tick less than 100 points. Palmer is riding around in eleventh place in the SUPRS championship.

“Crazy” Chris Meyers certainly has the best finishing record when it comes to the Mr. Online Supermodified race, never finishing worse than tenth. Meyers only recently lost the SUPRS championship lead and fell in the Xtreme standings when his online race rig went up in smoke. Meyers makes no friends on the sim racetrack and if he can get his rig fixed would love nothing more than to be called Mr. Online Supermodified regardless of friendships outside of the sim world.

Not to be counted out is Dan Shupe and Perry Vance. Both have points in all three championships with Shupe looking the best overall sitting in the top ten for both the Xtreme SUPRS Challenge Championship and XSTSR and in thirteenth with SUPRS. Vance meanwhile has consistently improved across the board and rides in 15th with SUPRS and XSCC and 16th in XSTSR. Both drivers are a threat to win no matter what type of sim supermodified they race.
