Two Keystone Nationals Wins in a Row for Ohh, Takes Thriller at Nazareth

Night 2 of Keystone Nationals at Nazareth Speedway Falls to Dave Ohh

March 3, 2021 – Nazareth, PA…In high speed cat and mouse game of thrills that took just over fourteen and a half minutes to run, including two caution periods, Dave Ohh won the 25 lap feature on the second night of the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), 16th Keystone Nationals at Nazareth Speedway. Brad Keysor tried to run Ohh down late in the race, but had to settle for second, while Zach Sears returned to SUPRS competition and after a spirited battle, beat rookie Ryan Cloonan for a fine third place finish after leading the first six laps.

Speedy Likes the Big Ones

Dave “SpeedyMan” Ohh makes it no secret that he likes the big tracks and longer races, and eluded to his enjoyment of racing at the big, fast joints like Nazareth. “It’s nice to get two in a row,” said the TMS Wolfpack driver of winning at Nazareth for the second year in a row. “There seems to be something about these larger, flat tracks, like here at Nazareth and Phoenix, that I’ve got something good working here. I just hope I can keep it going.”

Ohh didn’t think his win was as easy as he made it look though. “It was a good race, those top four were tight for the first ten laps battling back and forth and swapping positions,” he said.

“I know in the draft, for me personally, I wasn’t going to be as good in turn three with all the speed we carried in there. I knew once I got in front of Ryan, (Cloonan the early race leader), I just tried to break that draft and get into clean air so i wouldn’t get any push behind them, and they wouldn’t get any pull up to me. That was the key for me tonight.”

Mostly Smooth Sailing

Only two cautions slowed the otherwise quick pace of the feature race. The first one for Carl Becker who lost control of his Dowker Titanium Roadster on the exit of turn two. Becker walloped the wall but was able to continue.

The second caution was for a two-car tangle involving Keith Powell and Derrick Backus in turn four. A slight touch by Backus to the rear nerf bar of Powell was all it took to send them both careening into the outside turn four wall and out of their respective sixth and seventh positions at the time, and contention for the remainder of the race.

Early Results

Earlier in the evening Brad Keysor laid down a blistering fast lap of 21.489 in time trials to become the fastest qualifier. After the Elite 8 inversion, two eight lap heat races were run. The winners were Dave Ohh and Keysor.

Keystone Nationals Wraps Up with Witkum Memorial

Tomorrow the SUPRS racers will gather at Jennerstown Speedway to honor and remember the late Randy Witkum for the third, and last event, of the 16th Annual Keystone Nationals. The 17th Annual Randy Witkum Memorial is a 125 lap supermodified sim race that pays tribute to the driver that lost his life at Jennerstown Speedway in 1999 during an International Supermodified Association, (ISMA), race.

Last year, Keith Powell, after many years of trying, finally came home a winner ahead of three-time Witkum winner Bob Gangwer and Dave Ohh. Ohh’s third place last year was enough to break a tie with Rob Warren for the overall Keystone Nationals Championship.
