Nelson Rodrigues Wins Dodge Raceway Stadium Feature for Second Year in a Row
February 7, 2018 – Maitland, FL…Nelson Rodrigues of Stoneham, MA has found the tight confines of Dodge Raceway Stadium to his liking and after leading all but one lap, brought home his second win in as many years during competition for Night 3 of the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), Florida Speedweeks 2018. Keith Powell and Bob Gangwer were second and third.

Close Call
Rodrigues took off at the start of the race and looked to be on easy street until a rim-riding Keith Powell caught him with about 10 laps to go. Still though, Rodrigues kept Powell at bay until the first and only caution of the race came out on lap 46.
On the restart Powell showed his hand and got by Rodrigues, but the driver from MA wasn’t about to let the win slip away and after a close call, used a slide job back to the point and went on to win.
Mr. Consistency
Keith Powell just keeps racking up the second place finishes, (Dodge was his third of Speedweeks and fifth straight overall), and his consistency during the swing he has nicknamed “the gator grind” has put him on top of the Florida Speedweeks points standings. With just two shows left, Powell is now a scant five points ahead of Bob Gangwer and fifteen ahead of Rob Warren.

The fourth of five nights of SUPRS Florida Speedweeks 2018 takes place at USA International Speedway tomorrow night February 8 with a 25 lap feature. Last year, Kyle Clark won his first SUPRS feature on this big 3/4 mile track in Lakeland.
USA International Speedway is one of two tracks that has hosted a SUPRS Florida Speedweeks race every year the swing has run and Ray Sand, Jr. is the all-time winner at this racetrack with three victories there.
