Third President’s Day Special for Rob Warren
February 18, 2019 – Buckley, CA…Rob Warren of Pulaski, NY was able to hold off a tenacious Dave “SpeedyMan” Ohh to win the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), President’s Day Special 75 lap supermodified sim racing feature at Buckley Speedway Monday night. Ohh finished second .418 seconds behind and Warren’s season-long challenger in the SUPRS Gold Crest Championship XV points battle, Keith Powell, was third, nearly a lap back.
Becker Leads First Nine
Carl Becker, who has a very good finishing record at Buckley, brought the field down for the green flag of the President’s Day Special with Rob Warren to his right in the front row. Becker wasted no time establishing a strong lead, but had fast company on his rear nerf bar.
As lap nine clicked off, Dave Ohh, who had gotten the jump on Warren at the start and was in second place, found a small opening, below Becker, to his liking and put his TMS Wolfpack #11 under the cagey veteran for the lead. Becker was having nothing of it, and refused to move over for the young charger.
Rob Warren then saw his chance as the top two banged nerf bars and dove to the inside of both in turn three for a three-wide pass for the lead. It was a position he would not relinquish for the remaining 66 laps.
Stenson Returns
Logan Stenson returned to SUPRS competition for the first time in over five years but his night didn’t go as planned. After electing to start tail of the feature, Stenson struggled to get in the groove. He kept trying until about 25 laps in when he climbed the wall, lost control of his car and flipped out of the track. While not a good finish, the virtual racing crash, certainly was spectacular.
Warren, Powell Goes to Billy Vukovich III Classic
Warren’s win was his ninth of the season, one more in the tally than Keith Powell. Powell came into the night 20 points ahead of Warren in the SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Championship XV standings, a total nearly cut in half after Warren’s win. Clearly, the title is still very much up in the air as the drivers head to Mesa Marin Raceway next week for the 15th Annual Billy Vukovich III Classic on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 where Powell is the defending winner of the race, and Warren a former winner himself.
Practice gets going at 8:00pm for this prestigious races that celebrates the life of the late Billy Vukovich III. The winner of this race becomes a guaranteed starter for SUPRS 15th Annual Summit Classic 125 at Madera Speedway in April.
This year’s show at the NASCAR Heat sim racing track is part of the SUPRS/HeatFinder.net Supermodified Challenge and open to anyone that has the track, the SUPRS modification, and has registered to race at SUPRS.net.
