High Car Counts, Close Competition Expected for First Race

April 19, 2015 – Elyria, OH… Online racers from across the country and Canada are fine tuning their sim supermodifieds this week in preparation for the first race of the Xtreme SUPRS Challenge Championship.

The cars and stars sanctioned by Xtreme Short Track Sim Racing, (XSTSR), and the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), will come together on Monday, April 20 for the first of the six race series with a 50 lap race hosted by XSTSR at Oswego Speedway.

This event will be the first of three that XSTSR will host, with the remaining three races hosted by SUPRS. Overall, the Xtreme SUPRS Challenge Championship will feature two dates and three races on the XSTSR 2015 schedule and two dates and three races on the SUPRS 2015 schedule. Online racers will be able to compete for the Xtreme SUPRS Challenge Championship as well as their respective sanctioning body championships. Series officials continue to work on special points and awards for all registered drivers.

Using the normal XSTSR format, heat races will be lined up by a handicap system like that used by Oswego Speedway. The top 12 finishers from the heats will then be lined up for the feature event using the same system. Official practice starts at 8:00 pm est with racing going green at 9:00 pm.

Twenty-four drivers hailing from six states and one Canadian province registered to run for the Xtreme SUPRS Challenge Championship by the April 13 deadline making them eligible for awards and prizes that come with being declared the overall Champion.

Even so, with all the races being part of each sanctions’ regular schedule, the races are open to all members, leading series officials to expect fields of up to 30 entrants per race. Just making the feature starting line-up of will be a challenge and an accomplishment.

Rob Warren of Pulaski, NY now sits third in SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Championship and is a former SUPRS Silver Crest Champion. He’s excited to take on the challenge. “I’m looking forward to more competitive races with strategy and car setups involved that help determine the outcome,” he said.  “I’m also looking forward to the challenge of racing with new talent from XSTSR, as well as upholding SUPRS core fundamentals and Mission Statement.”

Warren expressed his thoughts on the joint effort of XSTSR and SUPRS stating, “It’s an exciting time for online simulator racing with multiple groups merging their knowledge to create the best games with the most challenging aspects of supermodified racing in mind.”

With nine drivers, Ohio has the most registered entrants including Dave Soja, Art Palmer, Chris Meyers, Steve Callahan, Tyler Perry, Perry Vance, Jarrett Emmerich, Dan Shupe, and Mike Bivins.

Nine-time SUPRS Champion Ray Sand, Jr. leads the pack of seven New Yorkers registered and will be joined by fellow Empire State racers Domenic Gioia, AJ Truax, Rob Warren, Jake Zoll, Kevin Baker, and Kody Graham, a real supermodified competitor at Oswego Speedway.

Representing Michigan will be Gary Waldron, Brian Strickland, Ricky LaDuke , while Bob Gangwer will be the lone Hoosier expected to race.

Dave Armstrong Jr, of Lynchburg, VA, who has picked up two wins in the winged supermodifieds at XSTSR, is entered, and Albany, Oregon’s Shane Gott, a seasoned veteran, will be another favorite for the win. Canadians Tony Reiner and Chris Rioux will be crossing the border with high hopes of taking the Xtreme SUPRS Challenge Championship back across the border.

A complete roster, race results, schedule and rules for the Xtreme SUPRS Challenge Championship are posted on the SUPRS website.
