Bob Gangwer on Pole, Rob Warren Outside for SUPRS Summit Classic 125 at Madera Speedway

Madera, CA – May 6, 2019… For the fourth time in five years, Indiana’s Bob Gangwer has won the pole position for the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), Summit Classic 125 at Madera Speedway. Gangwer’s lap time of 11.723 in the Belfab Racing Products house car was enough to give him the top spot and a front row start for the fifth straight year. For the third time in his career, Rob Warren of Pulaski, NY will take the green flag from outside of row one with a time of 11.746

Happy to Take Top Spot

Goshen, IN native, Bob Gangwer, was more than happy to set fast time and take his fourth Summit Classic pole.  “It’s hard to express how much I wanted to put this thing on the pole this year for Jimmy Belfiore, and how happy I am that I could do it over the two guys that battled all season for the championship,” said Gangwer.

“There’s a lot of history for the Belfab Chassis, and the Belfiore name at Madera, some of it good, some of it not so good,” Gangwer explained. “Tonight, even though it’s just sim racing, it’s a car that was modeled from Jim Belfiore’s blueprints, and has a graphic designed by his son Justin on it, that’s on the pole for the biggest supermodified sim race of the year at Madera. So win, lose or draw, tomorrow night, I’ll take this one right now, because it feels like vindication for Jimmy. Thanks to 1st to Finish Race Servers, Hairbag Studios, Icings on Top, BreezeGraphics, my sponsor RW Woodworking, and the Good Lord for helping get me here tonight.”

Slight Mistake Costs Warren

15th Annual Summit Classic Time Trials

2017 Summit Classic 125 winner, Rob Warren is noted for his fast qualifying runs, but at Madera, he seems to always be the bridesmaid and this year was no different. Coming up just shy of the pole position after a small mistake on his first lap didn’t have him too upset though. “Not disappointed,” he said. “I just over drove the entry into turn on and couldn’t rattle off a second lap. Congrats to Bob on the pole.”

Powell Wins Heat Race

Keith Powell of Carrolton, OH won the the Qualifying Heat Race. Powell led from green to checkered while Rob VanTuinen and Carl Becker had a spirited battle for second. VanTuinen in the Ratman Racing #47 was able to hold Becker at bay and take second place. That puts him outside of row two for his first Summit Classic 125 start at his home track tomorrow night. Becker will line up fifth.
