Smart Driving Early

Starting from the outside of row six, SUPRS Icings on Top Rookie of the Year contender, Ohh, knew that he would have to make a move early to have a shot at winning at the one-groove Buffalo Speedway. His smart driving at the drop of the green flag saw him clear several cars on the outside by the time the second lap was complete. He continued to work the second groove, going where no others would go and took the lead from Brad Keysor by lap six.

Ohh was quickest in Time Trials when he stopped the clock at 12.985. Carl Becker and Rick Walls won their heat races.

Powell, Warren Leave Buffalo Tied

In what has become a weekly see-saw between defending SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Champion Rob Warren and title contender Keith Powell for the SUPRS 15th Anniversary title, the duo left Buffalo in a dead-even tie at the top of the points race. Powell, who ran poorly in his heat race, and missed the inversion cut, was scheduled to start on the inside of the last row for the feature. He opted instead to move one spot over to last starting place and go for the SUPRSChallenge, a bonus that pays 20 points to the driver that starts last and wins a feature.

Powell’s strategy almost paid off as he was able to make it up to third place after being stuck mid-pack for most of the race. Warren was able to breath a sigh of relief and ran consistently to finish second and erase the eight point lead Powell had coming into the event.

Mid-Season Championship Next

The SUPRS competitors stay in New York next week for the Mid-Season Championship. For the first time in over 10 years, Oswego Speedway will not host this important Twin 35 lap feature event as the race has been moved to Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh, NY.

Both features pay double SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Championship points, has multiple bonuses on the line, and are part of the 2018-19 Empire State Super Series. Practice gets underway at 8pm and fans can watch the intense points battle battle between Rob Warren and Keith Powell along with the rest of the action from Airborne on SUPRS LIVE! beginning at 9:00pm est.
