March 1, 2024 – Goshen, IN…Prepare for an exhilarating journey through Pennsylvania’s supermodified sim racing scene, with the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series (SUPRS) Keystone Nationals. Over two action-packed nights and three electrifying events, competitors will take on the challenge of open-wheel action at three distinctive tracks. From a 3/8 mile course with its compound banking to an expansive 1 mile tri-oval, with a flat 1/2 mile oval to conclude the swing, racers will test their skills and push their limits in a thrilling showcase of speed and strategy.

Two action-packed nights and three electrifying events make up the SUPRS 2024 Keystone Nationals where drivers will test their supermodified sim racing skills using rFactor and NASCAR Heat March 5 & 6 in Pennsylvania. (Poster by BreezeGraphics.com)

Keeping Keystone Points

The feature races vary in length from 25 laps, to 125 and will use two different sim racing platforms making for plenty of interesting scenarios to play out as drivers vie for victory knowing that only the feature points each night count towards the Keystone Nationals Championship. The driver that can rack up the most points over the course of the two-night swing will be crowned the Keystone Nationals Champion and receive 20 bonus points to add to his SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Championship XX total.

Of the current crop of SUPRS drivers, Bob Gangwer has the most Keystone Nationals Championships with four, which is tied with Myles Maxon and Rob Warren for most all-time. Reigning SUPRS Champion Dave Ohh can never be counted out as a three-time Keystone Nationals Champion. In all seven drivers have won the Keystone Nationals Championships.

The SUPRS Keystone Nationals is not just a series of races; it’s a tribute to the spirit of competition and the passion for motorsports. Utilizing both NASCAR Heat and rFactor games, each event features unique qualifying formats, offering diverse challenges and opportunities for racers to shine. Furthermore, the overall Keystone Nationals Champion earns not only the glory but also bonus points that could prove crucial in the championship battle.

Double Header Ignites Action

The action ignites on Tuesday, March 5, at Lake Erie Speedway, followed by a swift transition to Nazareth Speedway on the same night. The race at Lake Erie Speedway marks the first time in the history of SUPRS that this racetrack has been used, whereas Nazareth makes it’s fifth appearance on the Keystone Nationals schedule. It’s also the first time a double-header has been on the Keystone Nationals Schedule. The addition of a second rFactor race, (Lake Erie), also marks the first time in the history of the SUPRS Keystone Nationals that there’s not been two NASCAR Heat events and that RT 93 Raceway hasn’t been on the schedule.

The adrenaline-fueled journey culminates on Wednesday evening with the cornerstone event of the 2024 Keystone Nationals and a the race that is one of the longest running in SUPRS history; The Randy Witkum Memorial. This 125-lap endurance test is held at the famed Jennerstown Speedway that honors the memory of late Randy Witkum, a supermodified racer that tragically lost his life while participating in an International Supermodified Association event at Jennerstown in 1999.

Joining the ranks of SUPRS legends, the winner of the 2024 Randy Witkum Memorial will secure their spot as a guaranteed starter in the season-ending 20th Annual Summit Classic 125 at Madera Speedway in April. They will stand alongside Zach Sears, the 2023 Dion Parish Memorial winner, and Dave Ohh, the 2024 Terry Gibson Memorial winner, in what promises to be a showdown for the ages.

In all, including the current season, seven different tracks have been scheduled for a SUPRS Keystone Nationals event, but one, Fernstein Mountain Speedway was canceled for the first race of the 2005-06 season due to massive warp and lag, and a 25 lap feature at Jennerstown was used in its place.

Three of those tracks are based on real Pennsylvania race tracks, one, Selinsgrove, is a real dirt track that was built for the game NASCAR Heat as a paved version. Until the 2023-24 season only RT 93 Raceway and Jennerstown Speedway have been on the schedule every time the Keystone Nationals have been run. Now Jennerstown Speedway is the only track that has been on the Keystone Nationals schedule.

Lake Erie, and Nazareth, (although Nazareth was scheduled for the 05-06 season before Ferstein Mountain, and subsequently Jennerstown took its place), are the only tracks that have had an rFactor event for every race contested there.

SUPRS Keystone Nationals All-Time Tracklist:

  1. Jennerstown Speedway (NASCAR Heat): 20 (twice in 2005-06)
  2. RT 93 Raceway (NASCAR Heat): 17

  5. Selinsgrove Speedway (NASCAR Heat: 2 (first race 2005, last race 2006)
  6. Lake Erie Speedway (rFactor: 1 first race 2024)

Of all those tracks, only Selinsgrove hasn’t had a repeat winner

When it comes to most wins at the Keystone Nationals tracks that have had repeat winners, Bob Gangwer has five wins at Jennerstown while Rob Warren has four wins at Jennerstown, and Gangwer has four at RT 93.
