Dave Ohh Wins SUPRS Seventeenth Christmas Special at Sanair Super Speedway, Gifts Award to Fellow SUPRS Member

December 15, 2020– St. Pie, QC, CAN…Dave Ohh got into the Christmas Spirit after winning the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), Seventeenth Christmas Special December 15 at Sanair Super Speedway, gifting his award of a Burgers’ Smokehouse Ozark Country Ham to fellow SUPRS member Brad Keysor. Keysor, who was the 2019 winner of the race and last year donated his award to injured supermodified racer Jeff Russell, finished .340 of a second behind Ohh who led all 25 laps. Rookie Ryan Cloonan had another great night and came home in third place, albeit three seconds in arrears to the winner.

Ohh in Shows Christmas Spirit

After recently winning the SUPRS Turkey Shoot at Memphis Motorsports Park and enjoying the taste of victory in the form of a smoked Thanksgiving Turkey from Burgers’ Smokehouse in California, MO, Dave Ohh knew how good Christmas dinner could be after winning and receiving a ham from Burgers’.

Even so, after saying how glad he was to park the TMS Wolfpack #11 in victory lane for the eighth time this season, he added, “As much as I enjoyed the Burgers’ Smokehouse turkey, in the spirit of Christmas, I’d like to donate the Christmas ham to my friend Brad Keysor. He’s been really busy lately starting a new business, and he’s always helping everyone else, so I hope he and his family can enjoy it.”

The always grateful Keysor said, “Thanks to Dave Ohh and Burgers’ Smokehouse, I’m going to finally get to enjoy one of their products. This was a real nice gesture and congrats to Dave on the win and to Ryan for third. It was a good night.”

Sweep of Night Begins with Track Record, Dash Win

Ohh’s sweep of the night began when he established a track record for the winged supermodifieds at Sanair with a blazing lap of 21.482 seconds in time trials. Keysor was the only other driver in the 21s with a 221.635. Ohh then started the fully inverted Reindeer Dash in last place. He wasted no time getting to the front and had the lead as the field came out of turn four to complete the first lap.

The yellow flew when Brad Keysor, battling with Bob Gangwer and Keith Powell for third place, locked up the brakes in turn one and got into Gangwer. Both spun with Gangwer getting the worst of it when he backed into the outside wall. Both drivers were out of the race leaving Ohh to pull away for a dominant win over arch rival Rob Warren and 2018 Christmas Special winner Powell.

Just Two Cautions Slow Race

The caution flag came out just two times during the race on a night that had the largest car count for the Christmas Special since 2006 which also had 15 entries, and marked the first time the SUPRS drivers had ever competed on the tricky one-mile at Sanair.

The first yellow flew on lap 10 when Bobby Hayduck clipped the rumble strips in turn one and spun up the track into the path of 2013 Christmas Special winner Gary Waldron.

After a long green flag run that saw several good two car battles develop as the pack spread out around the track, a major incident happened when Steven Vincent got loose in the dogleg, slid to the inside of the track then back into the path of Nelson Rodrigues and John Held.

At the same time Danny Ray had a miraculous save behind those three, but nearly stopped on the track. There was a lot of confusion about the restart running order, forcing Race Control to run a few extra caution laps to sort things out.

All in all though, the majority of the racers in attendance voiced their approval of the first time venue and left the track in a great mood.

Vincent, Hayduk Take First Career Heat Wins

Steven Vincent, a SUPRS rookie from Cicero, NY drove his Creative Assistant sponsored #28 to first place in the first heat race. Vincent beat the likes of SUPRS veterans Carl Becker and Gary Waldron, as well as 2019 Icings on Top Rookie of the Year Zach Sears, and Dick Schuler to claim the first SUPRS checkered flag of his career.

The second heat race went right to the wire between another rookie, John Held of Ont, CAN and Stoneham, MA racer Nelson Rodrigues. After a heated battle for most of the seven previous laps, the two charged out of turn four nearly side by side fighting for traction. They touched just before the finish line when Rodrigues lost control of his Star Speedway sponsored machine and clipped Held who is sponsored by NAPA Auto.

A wild last lap crash in the second heat race at Sanair led to Bobby Hayduk winning his first SUPRS Heat Race.

As they crashed, Bobby Hayduk, who was in third place coming to the line, also got collected but was able to spin his #14 American Diabetes sponsored ride across the line to take his first heat race win. Danny Ray was fourth and all the drivers left the race exclaiming that it was a fun way to finish a close race.

Time to Take a Break

After a great night of supermodified sim racing to close out 2020, it’s time to take a two-week break to spend time with family, fiends, and loved ones as the year draws to a close. This annual break during the Christmas and New Year season gives everyone a chance to step back, shut down the computer and social media so that they can focus on the truly important things in life.

The next scheduled race is the always zany Crazy Canuck Snowball Derby and Can-Am Challenge. This rFactor supermodified sim race at SUPRS Delaware Speedway by Camden Wagner is where everyone will meet after the New Year on Tuesday January 5, 2021. Practice gets underway at 8:00pm with racing set for 9:05pm.
