Dave Ohh Stops Keysor Cold, Shoots First Turkey at Memphis

November 17, 2020 – Millington, TN…Dave Ohh had a successful hunt at the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), 16th Annual Turkey Shoot at Memphis Motorsports Park and bagged himself a Burgers’ Smokehouse Thanksgiving turkey. Defending Turkey Shoot winner Brad Keysor came close, but had to settle for second just .046 of second behind. Ryan Cloonan had a fine run to claim third.

Wins a Turkey, Takes the Point Lead

With the win in the 16th Annual Turkey Shoot, Dave Ohh Union, CT claimed his sixth feature victory of the season and second in a row. With it, he not only took over the championship point lead from Keith Powell, but will also be able to have a delicious Thanksgiving dinner thanks to Burgers’ Smokehouse.

“It’s pretty awesome to win such a prestigious race within SUPRS, thanks to Burgers’ Smokehouse for sponsoring the prize, I look forward to that, they may have a customer for life after this one,” said Ohh.

Felt the Pressure

He may have led the full 40 laps, but Dave Ohh was never able to breath easy. With cautions continuously bunching the field, Ohh could never truly shake a tenacious Brad Keysor.

“It was a heck of a race with Brad, he was with me every lap,” stated the winner. As unusual as it may seem for supermodified sim racing, Ohh, who has plenty of wins on big tracks in other types of race cars, said that the draft played a big part in his strategy. “I knew my chance was on the initial start. After the dash when I knew after running behind Brad that it played a part. I think if he could have gotten even with me he was flying in the draft here and it definitely helped it.”

It helped so much so that Ohh nearly lost the lead when Keysor had a great run down the front stretch and the two bumped after Keysor was able to suck up to Ohh. “It was almost my demise,” said Ohh. “It seemed like I over drove it every other lap. I think it got my right rear, so it must have gotten Brad’s left front. I could hear him up there, it was just tight racing and there was no way to get away from him here. I lost track of the laps. It was crazy racing with him, it was very close.”

Ohh recognized that Keysor wasn’t his only threat and gave a shout out to rookie Ryan Cloonan of Oswego, NY. “Ryan definitely picked up there in the second half when Brad and I got to battling,” he said. “Congrats on another strong run for Ryan and thanks to The Mod Squad, Burgers’ Smokehouse, 1st to Finish Race Servers, Hairbag Studios, Icings on Top and BreezeGraphics.com.”

Keysor Comes Up Just Shy of Second Shoot Win

Second place finisher Brad Keysor was trying to accomplish the same feate as Ray Sand, Jr., Dave Biro III and Kyle Clark by becoming the fourth back to back winner of the Turkey Shoot, but came up just shy.

“I wouldn’t’ say I had anything for him,” began Keysor. “He was a little looser and he gave me a couple of runs on the outside, but we were so equal you could never finish a pass. I was there the whole race, it was a great race and I would have liked to have won it.”

Keysor was quick to credit the winner’s skills. “Dave’s obviously good for a reason,” he said. He’s won 32, 33, 34 ARL titles so he’s no slouch.” As always the football coach was able to keep things in perspective saying, “It’s good to hang out with everyone on a Tuesday night, because there’s a lot worse things you could be doing. Thanks to Burgers’ Smokehouse. I’m just going to have to try that much harder to come back and win the Christmas ham from them.”

Fifth Podium of Year for Cloonan

Ryan Cloonan hasn’t let his rookie stripes slow him down in his first full season of SUPRS racing. For the fifth time this year he put the Simabilty #13 on the podium and challenged the top two on repeated restarts. However, he could just never seem to find the rhythm he needed to move beyond third place.

“I think a lot of was operator error,” explained Cloonan. “I was pushing into the corner and loose off and getting a good restart was a big deal here.”

Running in the top three five times this year has given Cloonan a front frow seat for the Dave and Brad show, making him wonder where their speed comes from. “Congrats to Dave. I don’t know how they do it. Lap after lap and every race.

I have to work on getting more consistent laps down and maybe we can get up there and give them a shot. I have to stay focused on what’s in front of me and try to have a consistent finish.”
