Rocket Rob Races to Victory on Regular 45 Night

Share SUPRS:

June 8, 2021 – Oswego, NY…He may not have been the fastest driver on the track, but “Rocket” Rob Warren, of Pulaski, NY, did what he had to do and raced his way to victory driving the #35 1st to Finish Race Servers “Rocket Roadster” at the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), 45 lap NASCAR Heat feature event for non-wing supermodifieds Tuesday night at Oswego Speedway. Early leader, Bob Gangwer, came home for second place about a car length back, and Brad Keysor, after recovering from a computer glitch that most probably cost him the win, rallied back to finish third.

Wasn’t the Best, But Good Enough

Warren took the lead from Bob Gangwer on lap seven, then, after making contact and losing the lead to Brad Keysor, was the grateful benefactor of Keysor’s bad luck, inherited the lead back with less than a dozen laps to go, and went on to win. In victory lane the all-time SUPRS winner admitted that he didn’t have the best car on the track. “I have to say it’s bittersweet,” he said about the win. “For the second week in a row the fastest car didn’t win. Brad had the fastest car for sure.”

“It was an awesome race for me, a fun race,” Warren said. “Not my fastest or best, but you don’t have to be fast, just consistent and good. I have to thank Hairbag Studios, BreezeGraphics.com, and of course Cindy Lou-“whoo” for everything Icings on Top does, and of course SUPRS for giving me a place to race.”

Shampine Memorial Next

Next week on June 15 SUPRS remembers Jim Shampine, the father of the modern radical offset supermodified. Shampine won more feature events at Oswego Speedway, (87), than any other driver and prior to his death in 1982, had already become a legend in real supermodified racing.

Official practice for the SUPRS 16th Annual Jim Shampine Memorial begins at 8:00pm. Drivers meeting is at 8:30pm. Time Trials lock in the Elite 8 qualifiers at 8:345pm and racing is set to start at 9:05pm with the first of two 10 lap heat races, (if needed) prior to the 80 lap feature.

Full details for the Jim Shampine Memorial are on the SUPRS Schedule. SUPRS members should check the Forums for the latest info on server times and passwords.
