June 30, 2018 – Goshen, IN…The Supermodified Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), celebrates America’s birthday with the Independence Day Twin 35s on July 3 at Oswego Speedway.
Oldest Race on Non-Wing Schedule
The very first points race for the SUPRS Gold Crest Non-Wing Supermodified Championship came on July 6, 2005 with the running of the Independence Day Twin 25s at Jennerstown Speedway. 2006 Gold Crest Non-Wing Champion John Davidson and Canadian Sean Gibbs won those races.
Since then, the event has been held at Jennerstown Speedway two other times. Beginning in 2008 the race moved to the newly designed Oswego Speedway and has been held there since except for 2011 when Bristol Motor Speedway hosted the show and 2012 and 2015 when the event was not held.
Drivers Sweep Both Features Last Two Years
Because of the format and the short race distance, sweeping both features for the night has been very uncommon, with Kris Heveron the only driver to carry out the tall order, that is until the last two installments of this event. In 2016 Chad Phelps surprised many of his competitors when, after being locked out of the win column for over six years, he picked up both features on Independence Day that year.
Then just last year, Rob Warren, after starting fourth in the first 35 and sixth in the second, joined Heveron and Phelps in that rare club of drivers that have swept both races of the Independence Day Twins.
