November 14, 2020 – Goshen, IN…Thanksgiving is just around the corner and for the stars of the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), it’s time to bring out the big guns because they’ll all be shooting for a Burgers’ Smokehouse turkey during SUPRS 16th Annual “Turkey Shoot” Tuesday November 17 at Memphis Motorsports Park.
Large Field of Hunters Expected
SUPRS officials are expecting to see one of the largest field of hunters for the Turkey Shoot at Memphis. Based on a recent Sunday Night Test-N-Tune and confirmed reports, up to 18 drivers could be going for the win in the 40 lap feature, and with it, the guarantee that a succulent Burgers’ Smokehouse turkey is delivered to their doorstep in time for Thanksgiving dinner.
The largest starting field for this race happened in 2007 when seventeen drivers showed up and Kris Heveron won.
It’s interesting to note that of the three multi-time winners of the Turkey Shoot, all of them succeeded in claiming the prize in successive years. Defending winner Brad Keysor will try to match the accomplishment of going back to back like Ray Sand, Jr. (2008-2009), Dave Biro III (2010-2011), and Kyle Clark (2017-2018). Other former winners looking for their second turkey this year include Rob Warren (2012) and Carl Becker (2014).
Highly Sought After Prize
It’s one of the most coveted wins any of the drivers could hope to claim, but even so, as many times as not, the award has been donated to someone less fortunate than the winner. Just last year, first time winner Keysor donated his Bugers’ Smokehouse turkey to injured supermodified racer Jeff Russell of Boise, ID.
The delicious slow smoked turkey has a value of over $72 and comes from a family company that was started in 1952 by E.M. Burger in Moniteau County Missouri.
Burgers History Makes for Good Food
Bugers’ Smokehouse can trace it’s roots all the way back to the 1920s when E.M. Burger’s parents started curing hams on their local farm. Now known as one of the largest companies of its kind, the time-honored traditions of hard work and special personal touch have never been lost, to the point that, according to the Burgers’ website, each ham still starts the curing process by being hand-rubbed with a seasoning blend dating back to one developed by the family over 100 years ago.
Times for the Turkey Shoot
Hot Laps for the SUPRS 16th Annual Turkey Shoot at Memphis Motorsports Park begins at 8:00pm ET and runs until 8:15pm when the Drivers Meeting starts. Time Trials happen at 8:30pm where drivers will try to make the SUPRS 6 and the six lap Turkey Trot at 9:05pm where the finish sets the first three rows of the 40 lap main event. Drivers that qualified seventh or lower will run a Heat Race at 9:10pm and the 16th Annual Turkey Shoot Feature event should take the green flag at around 9:30pm.
